Job description

  • Produce segments and/or complete newscasts for broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms
  • Produce live and recorded streaming programs, special coverage, and community-focused content
  • Write clear, compelling, and accurate copy under daily deadline pressure
  • Edit news stories, franchise pieces, teases, promos, and special projects using non-linear editing systems
  • Create and edit content for WJZ's AR/VR studio environment
  • Locate, edit, and incorporate video, graphics, sound, and other visual elements to enhance storytelling and audience engagement
  • Write, publish, and update content for WJZ.com and other digital platforms
  • Create and optimize content for social media, streaming, and emerging platforms
  • Collaborate with producers, reporters, photographers, anchors, assignment editors, and digital teams to develop impactful content
  • Assist with community initiatives, special programming, and station projects
  • Monitor breaking news and respond quickly to changing coverage needs across all platforms
  • Maintain high journalistic standards, including accuracy, fairness, and ethical reporting practices
Requirements
  • Strong professional or college-level writing skills required
  • Proficiency with non-linear editing systems and video production workflows
  • Knowledge of AP Style and digital publishing best practices
  • Strong news judgment and ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline-driven environment
  • Experience creating content for social media platforms and digital audiences
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment
  • Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and breaking news coverage
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred
  • Experience producing broadcast newscasts, streaming content, digital content, or equivalent newsroom experience preferred
  • Experience in local television news preferred
