Position Summary

Math Curriculum and Support

Our middle school uses Mid-School-Math, designed to engage students through multimedia and traditional methods, inclusive of a well-designed curriculum guide, pacing, and all required materials. Additionally, math teachers at the middle school have a non-evaluative support coach to assist with planning and delivery.

The Math Intervention Teacher works alongside the 8th grade math teacher daily during assigned math classes. During whole-group instruction, the Math Intervention Teacher will co-plan and co-teach lessons aligned to the grade-level curriculum. During small-group instructional time, the Math Intervention Teacher will be directly responsible for an identified group of students, providing targeted pull-out intervention aligned to the current unit of study and designed to increase student access to grade-level curriculum as the unit progresses.

Main Duties Include:

• Co-plan Grade 8 mathematics instruction with the classroom math teacher, aligned to the adopted curriculum and Common Core State Standards.

• Co-teach designated portions of whole-group instruction to increase student access to grade-level mathematical content.

• Maintain primary instructional responsibility for identified intervention students during designated small-group instructional periods.

• Plan and deliver targeted small-group mathematics intervention aligned to student needs and the current grade-level unit of study.

• Use diagnostic, formative, and progress-monitoring data to identify student needs, establish goals, adjust intervention, and document student growth.

• Maintain required intervention records, including student participation, instructional dosage, progress-monitoring results, and other program data.

• Collaborate with the Grade 8 math teacher and instructional coach to ensure continuity between core instruction and intervention.

• Maintain consistent communication with families regarding student progress.

• Build strong student relationships while maintaining an urgent, respectful, and positive learning environment.

• Perform other duties as assigned that are aligned with the responsibilities, purpose, and instructional goals of a teaching position.

Competencies

Successful candidates will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to:

• Mathematical Content Knowledge: Apply strong knowledge of middle school mathematics content to make grade-level concepts accessible to students with varying levels of prerequisite knowledge and skill.

• Instructional Planning and Delivery: Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction using whole-group, small-group, and individualized instructional strategies.

• Differentiation and Intervention: Use student performance data to identify specific skill needs and design targeted instruction that supports student access to current grade-level content.

• Data-Informed Instruction: Use formative assessments, student work, diagnostic information, and progress-monitoring data to establish instructional priorities, adjust instruction, and monitor student growth.

• Co-Planning and Co-Teaching: Collaborate effectively with the grade-level math teacher to plan instruction, divide instructional responsibilities, and maintain continuity between whole-group and small-group learning.

• Classroom Culture and Relationships: Establish an urgent, respectful, and positive learning environment while developing relationships that communicate high expectations and a belief in students' ability to succeed.

• Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with students, families, teachers, instructional coaches, and school leaders regarding student needs, progress, and instructional strategies.

• Organization and Accountability: Maintain accurate student records, manage instructional time effectively, and consistently complete required documentation and progress monitoring.

What We Are Looking For

Applicants must demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

• Connecticut educator certification, or eligibility for certification based on applicable credentials and college transcripts, appropriate for teaching middle school mathematics.

Preferences

• Preference will be given to applicants who have:

• Prior teaching, paraprofessional, or tutoring experience.

• Experience using assessment data to identify unfinished learning and plan targeted instruction.

• Experience working with students with a range of academic needs, particularly in an urban school setting.

• Experience delivering instruction in both whole-group and small-group settings.

• Experience implementing differentiated instruction and monitoring student progress through data collection and reporting.

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively as part of an instructional team.

• Competitive salary range: $54,000-$60,000
