Position Summary
The Math Tutor provides individual and small-group academic support to students in Grades 9 12 to strengthen mathematical understanding, build confidence, and improve achievement. The tutor will collaborate with mathematics teachers and use Illustrative Mathematics (IM) resources to reinforce grade-level instruction and address individual student needs.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and small-group mathematics tutoring.
  • Support students with conceptual understanding, problem solving, mathematical reasoning, and procedural fluency.
  • Utilize Illustrative Mathematics (IM) lessons, tasks, and resources to reinforce classroom instruction.
  • Collaborate with math teachers to identify student needs and align tutoring with current coursework.
  • Use questioning, modeling, discussion, and other strategies that promote mathematical thinking.
  • Monitor student participation and progress and communicate with teachers regarding student needs.
  • Build positive relationships with students and promote confidence, perseverance, and independence.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and student confidentiality.

Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of high school mathematics.
  • Experience working with high school students preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students individually and in small groups.
  • Experience with Illustrative Mathematics (IM) preferred.
