Job description

Retail/ITAD Technician

Job Description - Retail & ITAD Department

DEPARTMENT

Retail / IT Asset Disposition (ITAD)

REPORTS TO

Retail Store Manager (day-to-day supervision); Retail & ITAD Operations Manager (ITAD task direction and quality verification)

FLSA STATUS

Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE

Full-Time, Hourly

LOCATION

Dymin Systems - Urbandale, Iowa (Computer Repair of Des Moines retail location)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Retail/ITAD Technician is a hands-on bench and sales-floor role that also performs IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) processing support. Most of this role's time is spent on customer-facing retail and bench duties - sales, repair intake, diagnostics, and hardware/software repair. The remainder is spent performing data sanitization and ITAD intake tasks under Dymin's established chain-of-custody and data-destruction protocols. This is a split role by design, not an informal one: ITAD work carries client data-security and compliance obligations that do not flex around retail floor volume, so this role's ITAD time and duties are protected and scheduled, not squeezed in around retail demand.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Retail & Bench Operations

  • Engage walk-in customers, provide knowledgeable sales support, and complete point-of-sale transactions.
  • Complete the check-in process for new bench repair orders and answer phone calls to the bench-repair queue.
  • Perform diagnostics and hardware/software repairs on customer PCs per Dymin's repair standards.
  • Communicate diagnostic results to customers and obtain approval before completing repair work.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and on-brand bench and sales floor.

ITAD Support

  • Perform data sanitization on client-decommissioned assets using Dymin's approved tools and approved physical destruction equipment, applying the correct NIST 800-88 category (Purge or Destroy) based on media health and type.
  • Log intake of ITAD assets accurately and maintain chain-of-custody documentation from receipt through final disposition (resale, recycle, or destroy).
  • Complete required per-asset documentation (originating organization, manufacturer, model, serial number, sanitization method, technician signature) to support each Certificate of Destruction.
  • Sort and stage processed assets for resale, recycling, or destruction per grading standards set by the Retail & ITAD Operations Manager.
  • Coordinate Retail and ITAD coverage with the General Manager

Along with all other duties assigned from time to time that may not fit within this job scope.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 1-2 years of experience with PC troubleshooting, diagnostics, and hardware/software repair.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • High attention to detail and comfort with documentation-heavy, procedure-driven work - ITAD sanitization steps must be followed exactly as written, every time, with no shortcuts.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and logical problem-solving ability.

Preferred

  • Prior exposure to IT asset disposition, data destruction, or e-waste recycling.
  • General interest and enthusiasm for current technology, hardware, and software.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • None required. Willingness to be trained on, and to consistently follow, Dymin's NIST 800-88-aligned data sanitization procedures and chain-of-custody protocols is required as a condition of performing ITAD duties.

CORE VALUES ALIGNMENT

All Dymin team members are expected to always embrace our core values. This role is expected to especially model Solve It on the bench and sales floor and Do The Right Thing in following data sanitization and chain-of-custody procedures precisely and without exception - even when the retail floor is busy - as a matter of client trust.
