Job description

JSM Airport Services, LLC is seeking a highly motivated General Support Agent at George Bush International Airport (IAH). This is a career-track opportunity, and we are looking for an individual ready to commit to a long-term professional future with our company, with an expected commitment of at least 1 year. The primary function of this position is to provide electro-mechanical operational, preventative, and emergency maintenance support.

Work Schedule:

Must be able to work as scheduled (this is a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week operation). Holidays will be included if they fall on a scheduled workday. Shift assignments are based on the airport and company requirements, as well as a technician's strengths, skill set, and experience. Our technicians are expected to be flexible in terms of prospective shift assignments.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Monitor baggage handling system operations and identify potential issues that may impact baggage flow.
  • Respond promptly to conveyor jams, alarms, system faults, and operational calls by clearing obstructions and resetting equipment as authorized.
  • Safely remove stuck, misplaced, damaged, oversized, or irregular baggage causing system interruptions.
  • Clear conveyor jams and reset equipment in accordance with established operating procedures.
  • Perform routine walk-through inspections of baggage handling areas to identify safety hazards, equipment abnormalities, or housekeeping concerns.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, unusual noises, damaged components, and recurring operational issues to maintenance personnel and supervisors.
  • Maintain cleanliness of conveyor systems and surrounding work areas by removing debris, foreign objects, and baggage remnants.
  • Ensure baggage handling areas remain organized, secure, and compliant with airport safety standards.
  • Remove mis-sorted baggage from conveyor belts, verify baggage tag information, and sort and transport luggage to the appropriate carousels within the baggage handling area, including designated carousels and oversized baggage areas, utilizing a golf cart as required.
  • Operate baggage carts safely and efficiently throughout the baggage handling area while navigating high-traffic and congested work environments in accordance with airport safety procedures.
  • Perform manual baggage encoding for luggage with unreadable, damaged, missing, or improperly applied bag tags using a hand scanner and/or bag tag computer touch screen (at manual encoding station) to maintain efficient baggage flow and accurate routing.
  • Assist maintenance technicians with preventive maintenance tasks, inspections, repairs, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Follow established lockout/tagout, safety, and security procedures when working around baggage handling equipment.
  • Assist with emergency response efforts during baggage handling system outages or operational disruptions.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, and operational activities as required.
  • Always comply with company safety policies and procedures
  • Perform cleaning and other duties as assigned or needed
  • Safety and Compliance Training as Required.
  • Adhere to all company, airport, TSA, and regulatory requirements.


Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate or General Educational Development (GED)
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Airport experience a plus
  • Must possess the ability to perform shift work including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must possess the versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work with constantly changing priorities
  • Must be able to report to work on a regular, consistent, and timely basis; must be prompt and maintain good attendance
  • Must possess the ability to work independently and as a member of various teams, a self-starter
  • Must exhibit a good customer service attitude

Physical Requirements:

  • Work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time and must be able to sit, push/pull, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Good hand/eye coordination is required
  • Specific vision abilities are required for: proximity, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 90 pounds or more
  • Regular exposure to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, cleaning/maintenance chemicals, cold and vibration
  • Possible exposure to work on an airport ramp around airline vehicles and heavy equipment
  • Regular exposure to loud noise levels
  • Occasional exposure to hot, cold, wet, or humid conditions

Additional Requirements:

The employee must be able to successfully pass a drug screening, a drivers’ license check and validation, a ten (10) year Criminal History Records Check (CHRC), federal fingerprinting and security threat assessment as well as airport security badging.

Continued employment is subject to all the above requirements on an ongoing basis, failure of passing any of the above requirements may result in immediate termination.
