Hourly Email Developer information

What is an hourly email developer?

Hourly Email Developers are professionals who specialize in designing, coding, and testing email templates and campaigns, and who are compensated based on the number of hours they work rather than a fixed salary or per-project rate. They often work with marketing teams or agencies to ensure emails are visually appealing, responsive on different devices, and compatible with various email clients. Their responsibilities may include troubleshooting rendering issues, integrating dynamic content, and following best practices for deliverability and accessibility. Hiring hourly allows businesses flexibility to scale resources as needed for short-term projects or ongoing campaigns.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an hourly email developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Hourly Email Developer, you need strong HTML/CSS coding skills, a keen eye for design, and experience with responsive email development, often supported by a relevant portfolio. Familiarity with email marketing platforms like Mailchimp or Salesforce Marketing Cloud, as well as knowledge of email testing tools such as Litmus or Email on Acid, is typically required. Attention to detail, time management, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for meeting deadlines and collaborating with clients or teams. These skills ensure the delivery of high-performing, visually appealing emails that render correctly across devices and drive successful marketing campaigns.

How does an hourly email developer typically collaborate with marketing teams and other stakeholders?

As an Hourly Email Developer, you'll frequently work closely with marketing teams, designers, and project managers to turn campaign concepts into responsive, visually appealing email templates. Effective communication is essential, as you'll need to interpret creative briefs, clarify requirements, and provide technical expertise on email best practices and limitations. You may also be responsible for testing emails across various email clients and troubleshooting rendering issues, ensuring campaigns are delivered on time and meet brand standards. This collaborative environment allows you to contribute technical solutions while gaining insights into broader marketing strategies.

What is the difference between Hourly Email Developer vs Email Marketing Specialist?

Job description

Front-End Developer & Site Manager, Internal Communications

Imagine what you could do here. At Apple, new ideas have a way of becoming extraordinary products, services, and customer experiences very quickly. You bring passion and dedication to your job and there’s no telling what you could accomplish.Apple’s Worldwide Communications team informs the world and Apple team members about the company, our innovative products and services, and the values that drive everything we do. We are looking for an experienced front-end developer to join our Internal Communications team as both a builder and a technical lead on Apple’s internal news platform — someone who thrives at the intersection of editorial and web development, and understands the rhythm, pace, and scope of corporate communications work.

Description

In this role, you will design, build, and maintain web pages and emails that enable a world-class communications organization to work at its best. You will also contribute to the development and enhancement of Apple’s internal news platform, email communications, and editorial experiences.Beyond development, you will serve as day-to-day site lead, managing the publishing experience, working directly with editorial and creative teams to bring their visions to life on the web, ensuring content gets published to a high standard, as well as working closely with a partner engineering team for ongoing improvements. This includes light QA validation and testing ahead of new code releases.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with editorial and design teams to translate content and layout needs into reusable page templates and components
  • Own the day-to-day publishing workflow — building page layouts, managing templates, and ensuring content goes live cleanly without editorial staff needing to write code
  • Take ownership of the site experience to proactively identify opportunities to improve design, functionality, and user experience
  • Design and code HTML emails and templates that render reliably across Apple devices, both desktop and mobile
  • Serve as backup email developer and publisher, as needed
  • Contribute to an internal component library across articles, landing pages, and emails
  • Work with engineering partners and editorial peers to improve shared tooling
  • Support platform migration and site redesign efforts, including building templates, content types, and front-end conventions within a modern CMS architecture
  • Contribute to department initiatives and emerging priorities beyond the core role
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional front-end development experience
  • Demonstrated experience building and testing HTML email templates
  • Deep familiarity with Safari/WebKit rendering behavior on both macOS and iOS, and comfort troubleshooting WebKit-specific issues
  • Comfort with collaboration and project management tools for documentation, task tracking, and cross-team coordination
  • Basic Git/version control proficiency
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional development experience, including front-end development and work on email campaigns
  • Hands-on experience with Drupal, including building and maintaining content types and working within Drupal’s front-end conventions
  • Deep experience with an email development framework or testing tool
  • Experience with web-based email management and distribution platforms
  • Background working in or alongside media, internal communications, marketing, or editorial web production teams
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, Slack/Messages-driven environment with quick turnarounds
  • Experience designing for a mixed desktop/mobile and global audience
  • Familiarity with React or a similar component-based framework, and Node.js-based tooling
  • Applied best practices in accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.2 AA
