Job description

Amentum is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist, to join our team in Springdale, OH.

  • Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday.; 7am - 3pm. Hours may vary based on business demand.

  • Weekend hours may be scheduled to support our 24/7 operation.

As the EHS you will be responsible for supporting the implementation of safety, health, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements. You will partner with leaders and frontline employees to promote a positive safety culture while continuously reinforcing safe work practices in an emerging engineering facility.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the creation, implementation, monitoring or improving EHS Framework elements and ensure alignment with company's technical standards and core requirements.
  • Support site Environmental programs: Air, Water, Waste, and Chemical Management.
  • Support compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.).
  • Assists with EHS related event investigations, root cause determination, identification of corrective actions, and tracking of related corrective action to closure.
  • Perform and evaluate safety risk assessments for effective selection and implementation of defenses.
  • Participate in regular safety and environmental inspections to ensure compliance while assisting in identifying potential hazards and presenting ideas for continuous improvements.
  • Develop and deliver EHS-related training and safety briefings.
  • Coordinate waste management activities and environmental compliance tasks.
  • Perform other EHS related duties as required or needed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 1+ years of health & safety experience (or a minimum high school diploma / GED with an additional 4+ years of health & safety experience).
  • Experience/knowledge of EHS in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Experience using software to enter and interpret safety-related data.
  • Experience effectively delivering training to multiple levels of personnel

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • This position may require a valid Driver's License.

  • This position will require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client's location.
  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical office environment with no unusual hazards.
  • Occasional lifting to 20 pounds.
  • Constant sitting while using the computer terminal.
  • Constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness.
  • Must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines.
  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management programs
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple assignments.
  • Experience developing, implementing and/or optimizing EHS related programs in manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong ability to teach, coach, and influence.
  • Previous experience in EHS, Hazardous Waste Management, and Chemical Management.

Other Attributes:

  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
