What does an hourly dirt moving operator do?

An hourly dirt moving job typically involves operating heavy machinery such as bulldozers, excavators, or loaders to move soil, sand, or other earth materials at construction sites. Workers may be responsible for digging, grading, and leveling land to prepare it for building or landscaping projects. The role may also include routine equipment maintenance and following safety protocols on the worksite. These positions are usually paid by the hour and may require physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an hourly dirt moving operator?

To thrive as an Hourly Dirt Moving Operator, you need experience in operating heavy machinery such as bulldozers, excavators, and loaders, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent and sometimes a commercial driver's license (CDL). Familiarity with GPS grade control systems, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance procedures is typically required. Attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to work well under supervision are valuable soft skills in this role.
