Position Summary

The Building Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of Ryan Field's building systems to ensure a safe, efficient, and first-class environment for guests, employees, student-athletes, and event partners. This position performs preventative maintenance, responds to facility work orders, monitors building automation systems, and supports event operations before, during, and after events. The Building Maintenance Engineer plays a key role in maintaining the stadium's mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems while ensuring compliance with safety standards and applicable regulations.

This role pays an hourly rate of $40.00 - $46.00.

This position will remain open until December 4, 2026.

About the Venue

The new Ryan Field will create a world-class home for Northwestern University Athletics and a best-in-the-nation football experience for fans and players and be a year-round asset for the community.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems.
  • Monitor and operate the Building Automation System (BAS) to ensure optimal building performance and occupant comfort.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment, including air handlers, pumps, motors, boilers, chillers, lighting systems, plumbing fixtures, and electrical components.
  • Complete routine inspections of building systems and identify maintenance needs before failures occur.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repairs.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and preventative maintenance schedules using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Assist with setup and breakdown activities for athletic events, concerts, and other special events.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors performing specialized maintenance and repair work.
  • Monitor utility usage and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency.
  • Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and replacement parts.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, fire codes, environmental standards, and university policies.
  • Support snow removal, weather preparedness, and emergency response efforts as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to after-hours facility emergencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED. Certificate/diploma from a trade or technical school is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience with maintenance at commercial, institutional, sports, entertainment, or hospitality facilities.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair building equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and maintenance software.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license.
