Job description

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily activities of the housekeeping team to ensure that all guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and hotel facilities are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, presentation, and guest satisfaction.

The successful candidate will lead housekeeping attendants, inspect completed work, coordinate room status with Front Office, manage supplies and equipment, address guest requests and complaints, and ensure compliance with hotel standards, health and safety requirements, and established housekeeping procedures.

Key Responsibilities1. Housekeeping Operations
  • Supervise daily housekeeping operations and ensure smooth workflow throughout the shift.
  • Assign rooms, public areas, and other cleaning duties to housekeeping staff.
  • Monitor room-cleaning schedules and ensure rooms are cleaned and released within required timelines.
  • Inspect guest rooms, corridors, public areas, and other assigned spaces for cleanliness, presentation, and maintenance issues.
  • Ensure vacant, occupied, VIP, arrival, departure, and out-of-order rooms are handled according to hotel procedures.
  • Ensure all housekeeping standards and SOPs are consistently followed.
2. Team Supervision
  • Supervise, guide, motivate, and support housekeeping attendants and related staff.
  • Conduct daily briefings and communicate assignments, priorities, and special requirements.
  • Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, grooming, conduct, and productivity.
  • Train new employees on housekeeping procedures, cleaning standards, equipment, chemicals, and safety practices.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to team members.
  • Report disciplinary, attendance, or performance concerns to the Housekeeping Manager.
3. Room Inspection & Quality Control
  • Conduct detailed inspections of guest rooms before releasing them for sale or occupancy.
  • Ensure beds, bathrooms, floors, furniture, amenities, linen, towels, and guest supplies meet hotel standards.
  • Identify and report maintenance defects, damaged items, missing inventory, and safety concerns.
  • Conduct regular inspections of public areas and ensure immediate corrective action where required.
  • Maintain consistently high cleanliness and presentation standards.
4. Guest Service
  • Respond professionally and promptly to guest requests related to housekeeping.
  • Handle housekeeping-related complaints and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Coordinate special guest requirements, VIP arrangements, extra beds, baby amenities, and other requests.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous relationship with guests and other hotel departments.
5. Coordination with Other Departments
  • Coordinate closely with Front Office regarding room status, room priorities, early arrivals, late departures, VIP rooms, and special requests.
  • Communicate maintenance issues to the Engineering/Maintenance Department.
  • Coordinate with Laundry regarding linen and towel availability and requirements.
  • Work closely with Security regarding lost and found items and other relevant matters.
  • Maintain effective communication with the Executive Housekeeper and hotel management.
6. Inventory & Supplies
  • Monitor housekeeping supplies, guest amenities, chemicals, linen, towels, and equipment.
  • Ensure appropriate stock levels and report shortages to the Housekeeping Manager.
  • Maintain proper storage and handling of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Minimize wastage, misuse, damage, and unnecessary consumption.
  • Assist with regular inventory counts and stock control.
7. Health, Safety & Hygiene
  • Ensure all housekeeping employees follow hotel health, safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
  • Ensure cleaning chemicals are properly labeled, stored, and used.
  • Monitor safe handling of housekeeping equipment and machinery.
  • Report accidents, hazards, injuries, and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Ensure proper procedures are followed for hazardous materials, spills, broken items, and other workplace risks.
8. Lost & Found
  • Ensure all lost and found items are handled according to hotel policy.
  • Record, secure, and report found items accurately.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity when handling guest belongings.
9. Documentation & Reporting
  • Complete daily housekeeping reports, room inspection reports, staff allocation sheets, maintenance reports, and other required documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of room status, cleaning activities, supplies, and operational issues.
  • Report significant housekeeping issues to the Housekeeping Manager promptly.

Candidate RequirementsEducation

Experience
  • 2–4 years of housekeeping experience in a hotel, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or team-lead position.
  • Experience in a 3-star, 4-star, or 5-star hotel environment is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of hotel housekeeping operations, room inspection, cleaning procedures, and guest service standards.
  • Experience supervising and training housekeeping staff.
