Job description

POSITION: RECEIVING CLERK
DEPARTMENT: PURCHASING AND RECEIVING
REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT CONTROLER 

REQUIREMENTS

Must be flexible in work schedule and willing to work a variety of shifts including days/nights, weekends and holidays as deemed necessary. Requires knowledge of receiving and loading dock practices and traffic coordination as well as usage of warehouse equipment.

Requires high school education or equivalent. Previous relevant experience preferred.

SUMMARY:

The Receiving Clerk will be responsible for supervising the daily traffic out on the loading dock and connecting street. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, effectively communicating with arriving vendors for proper traffic flow as well as Security, Banquets/Catering, Purchasing, and other departments for delivery of food and non-food items.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Includes the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area
  • Ensure safe and uncongested travel between the loading dock and receiving area. 
  • Coordination and staging of items on the loading docks as well as assisting the Receiving Department.
  • Communicate effectively and establish effective working relationships with staff.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and compliance of policies and procedures, job descriptions, daily memorandums, chemical labels, and other instructions.  
  • The ability to perform basic math skills.
  • The ability to check all incoming goods (food and non-food items) against delivery invoices, food specifications and purchase records to assure that they type and amount of items charged and ordered were received.
  • The ability to issue credit memos as required.
  • The ability to issue food, beverage and non-food goods to appropriate departments on authorized supply stock requisitions.
  • The ability to fill all china, glass, silver, linen requisitions and update respective inventory cards.
  • The ability to ensure the cleanliness and security of all storerooms.
  • The ability to complete the necessary paperwork associated with the position of Receiving Clerk.
  • The ability to respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation.
  • Ability to perform other tasks or projects as assigned by hotel management and staff.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must be able to lift up to 100 pounds and push up to 85 pounds. Ability to distinguish letters, symbols, and colors. Normal vision and hearing range. Eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
