2+ years of experience in supervising (at least) eight associates at a branded, quality hotel preferred

Bachelorโ€™s Degree preferred

At least two years experience in the hotel industry is preferred

Hotel management: 2 years (Required)
IHG, Hilton, or Marriott: 2 years (Preferred)
Position Summary
The Hotel Bench Manager is a highly experienced hotel leader who provides temporary General Manager coverage and operational leadership at Paragon Hotel Company properties as needed. This position is designed to support hotels during General Manager vacancies, extended absences, leadership transitions, performance improvement periods, new hotel openings, or other operational needs.
The Hotel Bench Manager must be willing and able to travel to different properties and quickly step into the role of General Manager. This individual will provide stability, leadership, accountability, and operational support while maintaining company standards and ensuring the hotel continues to deliver an exceptional guest and employee experience.
The ideal candidate is a strong hotel operator who can walk into an unfamiliar property, assess the operation, build relationships with the team, identify priorities, and take ownership of the hotel's performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Management and Operations
  • Assume temporary General Manager responsibilities at assigned hotels.
  • Provide leadership and direction to all hotel departments, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Sales, and Food and Beverage when applicable.
  • Maintain daily operational oversight and ensure the hotel operates according to Paragon Hotel Company standards and brand requirements.
  • Evaluate the overall condition and performance of the hotel upon arrival and establish immediate priorities.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and effective scheduling across departments.
  • Monitor guest satisfaction, service standards, cleanliness, maintenance, and overall hotel presentation.
  • Ensure hotel policies, procedures, brand standards, and company expectations are consistently followed.
  • Address operational challenges quickly and professionally.
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence throughout the hotel.
Financial Management
  • Review daily, weekly, and monthly financial performance.
  • Monitor labor, payroll, purchasing, and operating expenses.
  • Work with department leaders to control costs while maintaining service standards.
  • Review hotel budgets and forecasts and take appropriate action when performance is below expectations.
  • Monitor revenue, occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, and other key hotel performance indicators.
  • Ensure proper cash handling, purchasing, inventory control, and financial procedures are followed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
Leadership and Team Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop hotel leadership teams and employees.
  • Establish clear expectations and hold team members accountable for performance.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and retention efforts.
  • Conduct or assist with performance management when needed.
  • Build trust and positive working relationships with employees at all levels.
  • Recognize employees for strong performance and contributions.
  • Help stabilize teams during periods of leadership transition.
Guest Experience
  • Maintain a strong focus on guest satisfaction and service recovery.
  • Respond to guest concerns and ensure issues are resolved appropriately.

Compliance and Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, brand standards, OSHA requirements, employment laws, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure appropriate workplace safety practices are followed.
  • Investigate and appropriately respond to employee and guest incidents.
  • Ensure required documentation and reporting are completed accurately and timely.
  • Protect company assets and confidential information.
Leadership Transition Support
The Hotel Bench Manager may be assigned to a property for a short-term or extended period and may be responsible for:
  • Providing interim General Manager coverage while a permanent GM is recruited.
  • Supporting a newly hired General Manager during their transition.
  • Assisting properties experiencing operational or leadership challenges.
  • Supporting hotels during ownership, management, or brand transitions.
  • Assisting with new hotel openings or significant renovations.
  • Implementing company-directed operational improvement plans.
  • Preparing the property and team for the arrival of a permanent General Manager.
Communication and Reporting
  • Maintain regular communication with the Regional Vice President, Director of Operations, and Corporate Leadership.
  • Provide updates regarding hotel performance, staffing, guest concerns, financial results, and operational challenges.
  • Complete required reports and follow company reporting procedures.
  • Communicate significant issues immediately to appropriate leadership.
  • Provide a thorough transition report when leaving an assigned property and turning responsibilities over to the permanent General Manager or another company leader.
Travel Requirements
This position requires extensive travel to Paragon Hotel Company properties.
The Hotel Bench Manager must:
  • Be willing to travel on short notice.
  • Be available to work at properties in different geographic markets.
  • Be comfortable staying overnight for extended periods when assigned to a property.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule based on business needs.
  • Be willing to temporarily relocate to an assigned property when necessary.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
