Role Overviewย 

Schumacher Hospitality is looking for a Design Coordinator to support our Hospitality design andย accountย teams in New York City.ย This junior role is suited to someone who has aย pro-activeย approach, a willingness to learn and collaborate, and is highly organized.ย This is an entry-level, on-site role well suited to a recent graduate with a design or textile background who wants hands-on experience in the hospitality and contract interiors industry.ย 

You will support the day-to-day design workflow for hospitality projects - from cutting for approval (CFA) requests through sampling, memo processing,ย designย and salesย coordination - working closely withย Schumacher Hospitality's Designers,ย Projects Managers, and Schumacher's mills and facilities.ย 

Youย Willย 

Strike Off andย Cutting forย Approval (CFA)ย Supportย 

  • Fulfillย strike off and memoย requests by cutting fabric, wallcovering, and trim swatches from current stock for designer and client approval ahead of full yardage ordersย 
  • Log, track, and prioritize incoming CFA requests to ensure fast,ย accurateย turnaround for hospitality clientsย 
  • Verify colorway, pattern, and dye-lot accuracy before cuttings are labeled and shipped, relying on a sharp eye for colorย ย 
  • Package and ship CFAs to clients and design firms, and follow upย with sales team with tracking and key informationย ย 
  • Take notes at design and product review meetingsย 

Sampling & Order Processingย 

  • Cut and label memo samples of hospitality fabrics and wallcoverings forย teamย and client reviewย 
  • Process memo orders andย sample yardage orders for design-related projects and developmentย 
  • Coordinate sample shipments between mills, showrooms, andย officesย 

Design & Digital Asset Managementย 

  • Assistย with scanning, organizing, andย maintainingย the digital library of design files, product samples, and memosย 
  • Archive past designs andย maintainย organized version histories of custom artworkย 
  • Liaise with Schumacher archival teamย for Hospitalityย custom designย archivingย processย 
  • Learn Schumacher's Hospitality product range - fabric types, wallcoverings, and printing techniques - by working alongside the design team on live client projectsย 
  • Rescale and recolor design filesย 
  • Create design files in simple repeatsย 

Cross-Functional Collaborationย 

  • Partner daily with designers, account managers, and project managers toย support design and development workย 
  • Assist the Design Director with collection development and project managementย 
  • Support the studio with administrative duties, such as setting up vendor meetings,ย submittingย invoices, and general organizationย 
  • Communicate clearly with mills and print facilities on technical specifications and artworkย and color samplesย 
  • Support general design, operations, and logistical tasks as neededย 

You Are / Haveย 

  • A bachelor's degree (recent graduate welcome) in Interior Design, Textile Design, Fine Arts, or a related fieldย 
  • A good eye for color and pattern matching,ย with high attention to detailย 
  • An understanding of, or strong interest in learning,ย repeatsย and color separationsย 
  • Proficient in using spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet)ย 
  • Proficient in design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator); experience with AVA is a plusย 
  • A good understanding of and experience with techniques and production methods across all textile categories: prints, wovens, wallcoverings, and trimsย 
  • Strong conceptual and layout skillsย 
  • Previousย experience in design, project or data management, or quality control is a plusย 
  • Able to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize workload under pressureย 
  • Able to follow directions and happily execute revisions withย a high levelย of accuracy and attention to detailย 
  • A no-task-is-too-small attitude and a willingness to pitch in as neededย 
  • Fast, efficient, andย accurateย -ย comfortable turning around a high volume of requests quickly without sacrificing qualityย 
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent requests in a fast-paced environmentย 
  • A clear, professional communicator, comfortable working with internal teams and suppliersย 
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive, solutions-focused approachย 
  • A genuine passion for interior design, textiles, and the hospitality industryย 
  • Basedย in, or willing toย relocateย to, the New York City area; able to work on-site in our office 5 days per weekย
