Position Description
Division: Brannan Sand + Gravel
Position: Asphalt Plant Operator
Reports To: Production Manager
FLSA Status: Full Time
Location: Sedalia, CO
Hourly Pay Range: $27.00 - $37.00
Position Summary:
Operates asphalt plant to produce hot mix asphalt and other mix designs used in the construction and maintenance of roadways. The job requires an extensive knowledge of aggregate, oils, and admixture products as well as respective test standards in accordance with mix designs.
Functional Responsibilities:
  • Willingness to mentor and train junior team members, fostering a collaborative learning environment
  • Strong understanding and daily compliance with Brannan safety standards and policies
  • Daily compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations and policies
  • Directly operates plant controls to properly manufacture hot mix, warm mix and/or cold mix asphalt to mix design specifications
  • Work with plant employees in production and distribution of product
  • Insures and assists in maintenance and repairs of the plant equipment
  • Conduct a daily safety walk around making sure the plant is in safe working condition prior to each shift
  • Responsible for proper material inventory: Ex. liquid asphalt, fuel, aggregate and rap, plus additives as needed. Check all liquid inventories daily and order accordingly
  • Responsible for plant maintenance and upkeep, making sure the plant is well maintained
  • Check all storage tanks, levels at the start of each shift, make sure we have the materials needed to produce mix
  • Make sure the silos have the proper material and amount of material in them so the trucks load out in a timely fashion
  • Ensure the plant is running at its maximum efficiency and if it is not, communicate this to the plant manager
  • Ensure the plant is "ready to run" for the next shift
  • Maintain communication lines with Managers, Superintendents, Paving Foreman etc. schedules and needs change throughout the shift
  • Talk with all plant employees about the schedule, jobs mixes, and tonnages
  • Check hot oil heater temperatures stack and settings and monitor throughout the day
  • Inspection of tank farm (containment area) for leaks and or spills
  • Check A/C temperature all A/C tanks make sure temperatures are set and heated at correct temperature per A/C delivery tickets monitor throughout the day
  • Check stockpile area for contamination of materials; also look for segregation and degradation of each stockpile
  • Make sure all paperwork is correct before the end of your shift
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Plant Manager/ Plant Superintendent/Foreman

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years' experience as a Hot Mix Asphalt Plant Operator
  • Leadership and supervisory experience
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Not afraid of heights
  • Flexibility to work long hours, varied shifts
  • Dedicated and hardworking and career oriented
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Physical Requirements:
  • Standing - 6 to 8 hours daily
  • Walking - 6 to 8 hours daily
  • Bending/Stooping - 6 to 8 hours daily
  • Repetitive Movement (shoveling/sweeping) - 6 to 8 hours daily
  • Lifting (weights up to 100 lbs.) - Occasionally
  • Lift and Carry (50/60 lbs. for 20 feet) - Regularly
  • Push / Pull - 6 to 8 hours daily
