POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a polished, personable, and service-oriented Host/Hostess to join the team at our private club restaurant at Moss New York. As the first point of contact for members and guests, this role is essential in setting the tone for an exceptional dining experience through a warm, professional, and immediate welcome. The Host/Hostess is responsible for managing guest seating with efficiency and grace, presenting menus with care, and ensuring a seamless flow of service in collaboration with the front-of-house team.

The ideal candidate brings at least two years of restaurant experience, demonstrates strong communication skills, and maintains a well-spoken, professional demeanor. Success in this role requires a proactive mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. A commitment to teamwork, punctuality, flexibility-including availability for early mornings and late evenings-and upholding high standards of service and personal presentation are essential.

COMPENSATION:

The hourly wage for this position is $20.00 per hour with tips. 

CLASSIFICATION:

This is a non-exempt, hourly position. In accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), you are eligible for overtime pay at one and a half times your regular rate for all hours worked over 40 in a single workweek.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide a warm, friendly, and professional greeting to all members and guests, ensuring they feel welcomed and valued upon arrival and departure
  • Manage guest seating efficiently, presenting menus and guiding guests to their tables while maintaining optimal flow of service
  • Review and manage reservations, ensuring accuracy, adherence to reservation policies, and maximization of the reservation system (SevenRooms)
  • Maintain and update guest profiles and history to support a personalized member experience
  • Monitor dining room activity, tracking table status (clean, occupied, or available) to support seamless operations
  • Answer incoming calls promptly and professionally, providing accurate information about the restaurant, menu, and reservations
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the host stand, including menus and surrounding areas
  • Assist guests with personal belongings and accommodate special requests whenever possible
  • Support "Grab and Go" orders and other service needs as required
  • Conduct routine checks of restrooms and public areas to ensure cleanliness and presentation standards are upheld
  • Uphold exceptional service standards by anticipating guest needs and striving to exceed expectations
  • Collaborate effectively with management and front-of-house team members to ensure a cohesive and elevated guest experience
  • Maintain a polished and professional appearance, adhering to grooming and hygiene standards at all times
  • Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, and flexibility in scheduling, including adherence to assigned shifts
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, hygiene, and licensing regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 2+ years serving experience in a high-volume, service-driven restaurant environment; upscale or chef-driven concepts preferred.
  • Flexible availability for AM and PM shifts, including weekends.
  • Strong teamwork, professionalism, and a hospitality-first mindset with excellent communication skills.
  • Genuine interest in seasonal, ingredient-driven cuisine with a willingness to expand culinary and beverage knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of classic cocktails, foundational wine varietals, and beer styles; fine-dining or craft beverage experience a plus.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and composure.
