Job description


Position Summary

The Host/Hostess is a key front-of-house service professional responsible for creating a warm, polished, and organized first and last impression for every guest. This role requires a calm, confident presence and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor.

The ideal candidate has experience in a refined, high-volume restaurant environment and prior experience using SevenRooms. Hosts play a critical role in managing guest flow, supporting service pacing, and communicating effectively with the service and management teams to ensure a seamless dining experience.

Essential Functions

 

Guest Experience & Arrival Flow

  • Greet guests warmly and professionally upon arrival, confirm reservations, and acknowledge special requests or occasions.
  • Escort guests to their tables, offer chair assistance, present menus, and ensure guests feel welcomed and informed.
  • Thank guests upon departure and provide a positive final impression of the restaurant.
  • Respond to guest questions and concerns with professionalism, empathy, and solution-oriented communication.

Reservations, Seating & Communication

  • Manage reservations, walk-ins, waitlists, and special requests using SevenRooms.
  • Accurately update guest notes, preferences, and special occasions within SevenRooms.
  • Answer incoming phone calls promptly and courteously, providing accurate information regarding reservations, hours, menus, and events.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication between guests, service staff, and management.

Dining Room Flow & Team Coordination

  • Coordinate seating and table assignments to support service pacing and guest satisfaction.
  • Communicate table status clearly with Servers, Captains, and Management.
  • Monitor dining room activity throughout service and adjust seating flow as needed.
  • Support daily preshift meetings by communicating guest notes, and operational updates when assigned.

Operational & Support Responsibilities

  • Ensure the host stand and entry area remain clean, organized, and presentable at all times.
  • Perform assigned opening and closing duties, including stocking supplies, cleaning, and assisting with side work such as folding napkins.
  • Assist with guest needs as appropriate, including directions within the resort, or special accommodations.
  • Attend required meetings and training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall service excellence.

Internal Relationships

  • Reports to the Restaurant General Manager.
  • Works closely with Servers, Culinary Team, and Restaurant Management.



External Relationships


  • Has regular, direct contact with restaurant guests and members.


Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of restaurant operations and guest flow.
  • Prior experience with SevenRooms is strongly preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and understand written English, including reservations, guest notes, and event details.
  • Ability to speak English clearly and professionally with guests and team members.
  • Ability to remain composed and welcoming in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Ability to move efficiently throughout a busy dining room.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience as a Host/Hostess or restaurant greeter in a refined or high-volume environment preferred.
  • Must obtain and maintain any required licenses or certifications as applicable.
  • CPR and/or First Aid certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. It requires walking or standing to a significant degree, as well as reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing.
