Job description

Position Title
Security Observation Officer - PRNOlathe HospitalPosition Summary / Career Interest:The Security Observation Officers provides continuous one-on-one monitoring of patients who are at risk of harming themselves or others. The role focuses on maintaining patient safety, preventing injury, and promptly reporting behavioral or medical changes to clinical staff.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain uninterrupted observation of assigned patients to ensure a safe environment
  • Regulate access to patient care areas, screening visitors and their belongings for potential hazards
  • Remove potentially harmful objects and maintain a secure setting for patients under extended care
  • Support and protect medical staff in situations where a patient poses a risk to themselves or others
  • Stay alert to patient behaviors, particularly during late-night or low-activity periods
  • Ensure property removal complies with policies and procedures
  • Adhere to company policies and report any incidents immediately
  • Notify clinical staff, chain of command, and Hospital Management of behavioral escalations or location changes; assist with patient restraints only as a last resort, prioritizing safety and dignity
  • Provide courteous, respectful interactions with employees, patients, and visitors, presenting a professional image of the client and security team.
  • Prepare logs, reports, and documentation using clear grammar and professional standards
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
