The Plumber reports the Supervisor of Plant Maintenance and will install, repair and maintain plumbing systems and fixtures in residential, commercial, industrial or public buildings. The Plumber reads blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the layout of the plumbing systems, water supply networks and waste and drainage systems. The Plumber will then plan install and service plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls. These piping systems may be used to transport water, waste, gases or hot liquids.

Plumbers work under the direction of the Supervisor of Plant Maintenance, in cooperation with other trades and laborers to ensure that all specifications, legislation and policies are met, and to ensure efficient completion of any assigned project. Providing adequate services will ensure that all water supply network and waste and drainage systems are installed, repaired and maintained to meet all standards of buildings codes and safety.


High School graduate or High School Equivalency Diploma and one year of advanced trade school or three years experience in maintenance field required.  A Journeyman Certification in Plumbing from a recognized and accredited post –secondary institution is required. Ability to work cooperatively with other trades, team building skills, analytical and problem solving skills, decision making skills, effective verbal presentation and listening communication skills, effective negotiation and mediation skills are required. Proven leadership skills with the ability to coordinate work responsibilities and influence individuals’ efforts in the course of the work assignments. Effective written communication skills including the ability to operate computerized accounting, spreadsheet, database and Word processing programs at a highlight proficient level, stress management skills, time management skills. The Plumber must have proficient knowledge in the following areas: water distribution and waster water disposal residential, commercial and industrial buildings. Relevant building codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures installation and maintenance.
