Job description

Position Summary:

Provide quality program classes that teach participants the terminology and technique associated with specific styles of dance, such as ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, ballroom, belly dance, etc.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Include the following.

Other duties may be assigned. Engage and communicate with members in a welcoming manner, addressing them by name and ensuring they feel valued.

  • Identify and address new participants.
  • Remain up to date on current programs and facility schedules to provide enhanced member satisfaction.
  • Create a fun and safe environment in which to learn Dance.
  • Responsible for the health and safety of individuals during class.
  • Appropriately provide and implement classes in accordance with National and State standards and guidelines.
  • Perform rescue/first aid when necessary. Report accidents and injuries as well as complete accident reports.
  • Set up and break down equipment as needed. Attend 80% of staff meetings.
  • Role model core values of: Respect, Honesty, Caring and Responsibility with members and staff.
  • Continually enhance professional development through additional workshops, educational courses and/or appropriate reading material.
  • Maintain accurate participant records/attendance.
  • Responsible for finding class coverage and/or communicating with supervisor to cancel class.
  • Instruct age-appropriate classes using age-appropriate music.
  • Responsible for choreography of routines within class.
  • Attendance at special performance events during the year, i.e. Spirit Day and Annual Recital.

Qualifications:

  • The individual must be able to perform each of the essential duties satisfactorily.

Education and/or Experience

High School (GED) preferred Minimum age 18 years Proof of teaching experience or willingness to train

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to anticipate, identify and address memberโ€™s needs to ensure safety and enjoyment.
  • To accurately complete all required paperwork.
  • To professionally handle and or get help to resolve conflict. Ability to follow instructions as given and/or directed by supervisor.

Certifications / Training:

  • CPR (In-house)/AED First Aid (Outreach) YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles, (within 3 months of hire)
  • Foundations of YMCA Strength and Conditioning (within 6 months of hire)
  • Foundations of YMCA Group Exercise YMCA Cardio and Step Aerobics Instructor OSHA โ€“ online Child Abuse Prevention Listen First
