Position Overview: 

We are seeking professional Airport Security Officers to support operations at Portland International Jetport (PWM). Officers will maintain a visible security presence, provide traffic and access control, conduct patrols of terminal and perimeter areas, and respond to incidents in coordination with airport and federal partners.

This role requires a high degree of professionalism, strong situational awareness, and a calm, customer-oriented approach to de-escalating situations. Officers are key members of the airport’s integrated security team, working alongside the Department of Homeland Security, TSA, City of Portland Police Department, and Airport Operations.

Security personnel are trained for several different posts including those detailed below. Working in conjunction with the airport and government agencies, the main priority of each position is to ensure that we maintain compliance with local and federal regulations in respect to each of the following:

  • Maintain a visible presence at terminal curb front, ticketing, and baggage areas.
  • Monitor and direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic at the terminal curb to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Conduct interior and exterior patrols, including perimeter fence inspections, parking lots, and restricted access areas.
  • Monitor for suspicious activity, unattended baggage, or safety/security hazards, and report promptly to the Airport Operations Center (AOC).
  • Perform nightly building and grounds checks to ensure all doors, gates, and access points are secured.
  • Respond to elevator malfunctions, emergency call boxes, and assist with building evacuations.
  • Conduct and assist with Aviation Worker Screening (AWS), vehicle inspections, and product inspections as directed.
  • Enforce airport policies including smoking restrictions, curbside parking, and access control rules.
  • Provide crowd management and assistance to passengers during peak travel times.
  • Support TSA and airport staff during special events or VIP movements.
  • Document activities, incidents, and observations accurately in daily logs and reports.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid Maine Class C driver's license.
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to pass a 10-year background investigation, fingerprinting, and badging process as required by TSA and the City of Portland.
  • Must successfully complete all initial and recurrent training required by Global Elite Group and airport regulations.
  • Ability to effectively speak, read, and write in English.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Professional demeanor, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently and as part of a coordinated security team.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods and work in variable weather conditions.

Schedule and Environment

  • The Jetport operates 24/7/365.
  • Shifts may include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Officers may be assigned to multiple posts, including terminal, perimeter, parking, or curbside patrol.
