A homecare nurse provides medical support and services to patients in their homes. Your duties depend on the care plan for each patient with whom you work. You usually travel to care for multiple patients each workday. During these home visits, you have standard nursing responsibilities, such as administering medication, checking vital signs, assessing the patient's overall condition, and recording medical information. You coordinate with a physician to provide essential health care, and you also educate the family to assist the patient in between your visits. Another name for someone in this position is a private duty nurse.
