What is home interior design?

Home interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interior spaces of a residence to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space. Interior designers plan layouts, select furniture, choose color schemes, and coordinate decorative elements to reflect the homeowner’s personality and lifestyle. The goal is to optimize both the functionality and visual appeal of the home, taking into account factors such as lighting, materials, and spatial flow. Professionals often work closely with clients to understand their needs and bring their vision to life, whether for a single room or an entire home.

Job description

Help Our Clients Create Homes They Love
At Your Nesting Place, we believe beautiful homes don't happen by accident. Our clients visit our showroom seeking inspiration, creative ideas, expert guidance and of course, beautifully well crafted home furnishings. to help them transform their spaces into homes they truly love.
We're looking for an experienced, design-minded professional who is passionate about interior design, furnishings, color, textiles, and creating thoughtfully, cohesive spaces. This is far more than a traditional retail sales role. Our ideal candidate enjoys working one-on-one with clients, listening to their needs, to help them make confident design decisions for their homes.
If you love interior design, enjoy building relationships with people, and have a talent for creating beautiful spaces, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do
  • Welcome clients and create a warm, engaging showroom experience.
  • Provide interior design guidance and decorating recommendations based on clients' style preferences, lifestyle needs, and budgets.
  • Assist customers with selecting furnishings (including fabrics and finish choices),  lighting, rugs, artwork, accessories, and décor that work together to create cohesive spaces.
  • Provide product recommendations and room concepts when appropriate.
  • Build lasting client relationships that lead to repeat business and referrals.
  • Maintain strong product knowledge and stay current with design trends.
  • Continually collaborate with team members to ensure displays and showroom presentations inspire and educate customers.
  • Support daily showroom operations, including visual merchandising presentation, order management, and light administrative duties.
  • Process sales transactions accurately and professionally.
What We're Looking For:
Please note:
Our clients come to Your Nesting Place seeking design expertise, not simply product recommendations. Successful candidates will have experience helping clients make decorating and furnishing decisions, coordinating finishes and textiles, and creating cohesive, beautiful living spaces.

Required Qualifications
  • Previous experience in interior design, interior decorating, home furnishings sales, furniture sales, visual merchandising, or a related design field.
  • Strong understanding of color, scale, proportion, textiles, furnishings, and interior styling.
  • Ability to confidently guide clients through design decisions.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Professional, polished, and service-oriented attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree, certification, or coursework in Interior Design, Interior Decorating, or a related field.
  • Experience creating room designs, space plans, or interior design presentations.
  • Familiarity with current residential design trends and furnishings.
  • Portfolio, design examples, or photos of completed projects are welcomed.
Why You'll Love Working Here
At Your Nesting Place, you'll join a creative team that celebrates beauty, values meaningful relationships, and takes pride in delivering exceptional client experiences. For decades, we've built lasting, often multi-generational relationships with clients who trust us to help shape the spaces where life happens. Every day brings the opportunity to inspire, guide, and help people create homes that beautifully reflect who they are and how they live.
Important
This position is best suited for candidates with previous interior design, decorating, or home furnishings experience. Applicants should be comfortable offering design recommendations and helping clients make furnishing and decorating decisions for their homes.
