As of Jul 2, 2026, the average yearly pay for home design architect in the United States is $128,756.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $91,000.00 and $166,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How does a Home Design Architect typically collaborate with clients and other professionals during a project?

A Home Design Architect works closely with clients to understand their vision, preferences, and budget, often conducting several meetings to refine design concepts. Throughout the project, they frequently collaborate with engineers, interior designers, contractors, and local authorities to ensure that the design is structurally sound, compliant with regulations, and feasible within the project's scope. Effective communication and coordination are vital, as architects must translate client needs into practical solutions and resolve challenges that arise during design and construction. This collaborative process ensures the final home design aligns with client expectations and project requirements.

What is the highest paid architect job?

Senior-level architecture roles such as Design Directors or Principal Architects typically have the highest salaries in the field, often exceeding six figures. These positions require extensive experience, leadership skills, and advanced knowledge of design software and project management. Compensation varies based on industry, location, and firm size.

What is the difference between Home Design Architect vs Interior Designer?

AspectHome Design ArchitectInterior Designer
CredentialsArchitectural degree, licensing, certificationDesign diploma or degree, certification (optional)
Work EnvironmentDesigning entire homes, collaborating with buildersInterior spaces, furniture, decor
Industry UsageArchitectural firms, construction projectsDesign studios, renovation projects

While both roles focus on creating functional and aesthetic spaces, a Home Design Architect specializes in designing entire homes, including structural elements, and holds architectural credentials. An Interior Designer concentrates on interior spaces, focusing on decor, furniture, and finishes. Understanding these differences helps clients choose the right professional for their project needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Home Design Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Home Design Architect, you need expertise in architectural design principles, building codes, and a professional degree in architecture with relevant licensure. Proficiency in CAD software like AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp, as well as familiarity with project management tools, is typically required. Strong creativity, communication, and client collaboration skills help architects stand out in delivering personalized solutions. These skills ensure that functional, aesthetic, and regulatory requirements are met, resulting in successful and client-focused home designs.

Is a home designer an architect?

A home designer and an architect are different roles. An architect is a licensed professional who creates detailed building plans, ensures code compliance, and oversees construction, often requiring formal education and licensing. A home designer typically focuses on aesthetic and functional aspects of home interiors and exteriors but does not have the same licensing requirements as an architect.

What does a Home Design Architect do?

A Home Design Architect is a professional who specializes in designing residential buildings, including houses, apartments, and renovations. They work closely with clients to understand their needs, create functional and aesthetically pleasing layouts, and develop detailed plans and blueprints. Home Design Architects also consider factors like building codes, sustainability, and budget constraints to ensure that the final design meets all requirements. Their responsibilities often include site analysis, concept development, and overseeing the construction process to ensure the design is executed as intended.

How much money do home architects make?

Home design architects typically earn a median annual salary of around $80,000, but this can vary based on experience, location, and project complexity. Senior architects or those running their own firms may earn significantly more, especially with specialized skills and certifications.

How much is an architectural designer paid?

Architectural designers typically earn between $50,000 and $80,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and firm size. Entry-level designers may start lower, while experienced professionals with licensure or specialized skills can earn higher salaries. Compensation often includes benefits such as health insurance and paid time off.

Job description

Luxury Smart Home Design Consultant (AV & Automation Sales) — Tampa, FL
Base + Uncapped Commission · Top Consultant on Pace for $250K+ · Tampa Bay, FL

Hive Integration designs, installs, and maintains premium smart home, AV, and lighting control systems for some of Tampa Bay's most beautiful luxury properties. We've been doing it since 2010, and we're growing fast — which is why we're looking for an elite Design Consultant who knows how to close high-ticket custom integration projects.
This is a hunter-and-closer role, and you won't do it alone. You'll be backed by dedicated pre-sales engineering, a sales coordinator who screens and routes leads, and a marketing team that keeps quality opportunities flowing. Your job is to build relationships with luxury homeowners, builders, architects, and interior designers, design incredible lifestyle experiences, and close.
Our consultants are on pace for $250K+ this year. If you have the drive, the industry knowledge, and the sales acumen, the ceiling here is uncapped.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll own the client relationship from first contact to signed contract — and beyond:
  • Consultative design selling. Meet with high-net-worth clients, architects, and custom home builders to understand how they live, then craft premium AV, lighting, and automation solutions tailored to their home and vision.
  • Pipeline management. Work your inbound leads, network within the luxury construction and design community, and build a healthy book of self-generated opportunities.
  • Collaborating with engineering. Partner with our pre-sales systems designer so the technical scope matches the client's vision — accurate, profitable proposals, every time. You won't be bogged down drawing rack elevations or building BOMs from scratch.
  • Closing high-ticket projects. Present, handle objections, and close — from single-room media rooms to six-figure whole-home integration systems, plus recurring Calibration & Optimization service plans that keep clients (and your commissions) coming back.
  • Client relationship management. Be the face of Hive Integration — a premium, white-glove experience through the whole cycle, and the person clients call for their next upgrade and their referrals.
You'll be in the field, in the showroom, and in front of clients doing what you do best: building trust and closing.
What Success Looks Like
Every Hive design consultant carries a $3M annual quota. That's the altitude we operate at — and we give you the leads, the pre-sales engineering, and the showrooms to hit it. Strong reps write multiple six-figure projects a year and are compensated like it.
You'll Thrive Here If You
  • Have operated at the top of this industry — consistently closing six-figure custom projects and carrying a serious book. Personally sold $2M+ in a year? Even better. Been closing premium custom work at a smaller shop and hungry for a bigger stage? We want to talk.
  • Have experience in Custom Integration (CI), luxury AV, or high-end construction/design.
  • Can speak confidently about premium platforms — Control4, Lutron, Josh.ai, and similar — in front of a discerning client.
  • Are comfortable networking with luxury builders, interior designers, and architects.
  • Translate technical concepts into lifestyle benefits the end-user actually feels.
  • Are motivated by an uncapped commission structure and want to build a real book of business.
Bonus: you already use AI tools (for prospecting, communication, or workflow) to sell more in less time. It's not required, but we're an AI-forward shop and it's a real edge here.

Not a Fit If You
  • Are uncomfortable selling to high-net-worth individuals or pitching six-figure projects.
  • Want a purely inbound, order-taker role and don't want to hunt or build trade relationships.
  • Don't understand the difference between a big-box AV setup and a true custom-integrated smart home.
  • Rely on high-pressure tactics instead of building trust and delivering premium solutions.
Pay & Benefits
  • Base salary + uncapped commission on gross profit. You help set the mix: take our lower base ($50K) with our top commission rate, or a higher base (up to $100K) with a lower rate — bet on yourself however you like. Either way, you're built to earn.
  • On-target earnings $200K+ at your $3M target — before recurring service-plan commissions and accelerators. Our consultants are on pace for $250K+ this year.
  • Recurring commission on Calibration & Optimization service plans — annuity income that compounds as your book grows.
  • 401(k); health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid time off.
  • Dedicated pre-sales engineering and a sales coordinator so you focus on selling.
Why Hive Integration
Connected Spaces. Seamless Control.

  • Sell the latest smart home and AV technology in genuinely luxury environments.
  • A team that values craftsmanship, professionalism, and premium client experiences.
  • Real support — engineering, coordination, and marketing behind every deal.
  • Clear expectations, solid communication, and respect for your expertise.
  • Room to grow your income and your career as we scale.
How to Apply
Send your resume and a short note (3–4 sentences) on the largest custom integration project you've personally closed — the scope, the value, and how you won it. Applications with that note go to the top of the pile.
