Job description

Description:

GRO Community is building a team that meets families where they are. This is a home and community based role for a clinician who believes that engagement is treatment. The Family Therapist will carry a focused caseload and clinical approach, and draw from a range of evidence-based and home-based models โ€” including Functional Family Therapy (FFT) โ€” to fit the intervention to the family rather than the other way around. If you're a clinician who is persistent, creative, relationally skilled, and energized by

complex family work, this role is built for you.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

What You'll Do

  • Provide home- and community-based family therapy to a caseload of 10โ€“15 families across the Chicagoland area.
  • Deliver intervention drawing from multiple therapeutic modalities, including Functional Family Therapy (FFT) and other home-based, family-centered models, matched to each family's needs.
  • Engage families relentlessly and flexibly โ€” meeting in homes, schools, and community settings, and at times that work for the family.
  • Conduct assessment, treatment planning, individual and family sessions, crisis support, safety planning, and community linkage.
  • Collaborate with schools, courts, child welfare, and other systems involved with the family.
  • Maintain timely, fidelity-consistent clinical documentation.
  • Participate actively in team consultation, supervision, and ongoing model training.

Our Clinical Approach:

  • We are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and family-centered. We prioritize relational flexibility over compliance-driven, office-based models, and we treat persistence, creativity, and accountability as core clinical skills. You'll have the autonomy to exercise clinical judgment โ€” and the team and supervision structure to back you up.

Caseload & Autonomy:

  • Focused caseload of 10โ€“15 families to allow for depth and intensity of engagement.
  • Significant autonomy over scheduling and day-to-day clinical decision-making. A mobile, community-based workday rather than a fixed office schedule.

Competencies:

  • Clinical Knowledge โ€“ Strong understanding of mental health conditions, treatment approaches, and therapeutic interventions.
  • Assessment & Treatment Planning โ€“ Ability to assess client needs and develop effective Individual Treatment Plans using Illinois Assessment tools.
  • Communication Skills โ€“ Strong verbal and written communication skills for client interactions, documentation, and collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Empathy & Client-Centered Approach โ€“ Ability to build trust and provide compassionate person-centered care.
  • Crisis Intervention โ€“ Skill in handling crises and implementing de-escalation strategies when needed.
  • Advocacy & Community Engagement โ€“ Ability to support clients in accessing resources and navigating community services.
  • Problem-Solving โ€“ Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills to address client needs effectively.
  • Ethical & Professional Conduct โ€“ Adherence to confidentiality, professional ethics, and state regulations.
  • Adaptability & Flexibility โ€“ Ability to adjust approaches based on client needs and evolving situations.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork โ€“ Effectively works with multidisciplinary teams, supervisors, and external partners.

Work Setting:

  • Hybrid

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or a closely related behavioral health field.
  • Illinois clinical licensure (LSW, LPC, LCSW, or LCPC). Associate-level clinicians (LSW/LPC) working toward independent licensure are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Meets Illinois Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) qualifications. Valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel throughout the Chicagoland service area.
  • Strong engagement skills with families experiencing conflict, instability, or crisis. Preferred
  • Training or experience in Functional Family Therapy (FFT) or other home based/family-centered models.
  • Experience with youth and families involved in schools, probation, child welfare, or behavioral health systems.
  • Crisis intervention and safety planning experience.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • A supportive and dynamic work environment committed to social impact.
  • Opportunities for professional development and growth.

How to Apply:

Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter detailing their relevant

experience to grosources@grocommunity.org.
