Job description

About the Company

BriaCell Therapeutics is a clinical-stage immuno-oncology company developing novel cell-based immunotherapies for solid tumors, including metastatic breast cancer. Our mission is to advance innovative immunotherapy approaches that improve outcomes for patients with difficult-to-treat malignancies.

Bria-IMTTM, BriaCell’s lead candidate, was awarded Fast Track status by FDA and is being evaluated in a pivotal Phase 3 combination study for metastatic breast cancer (MBC). MBC is breast cancer that has spread to other tissues. Bria-IMTTM is a targeted cell-based immunotherapy.

Bria-OTSTM, a platform of personalized off-the-shelf cell-based immunotherapies, is being evaluated in a Phase 1/2 clinical study initially targeting breast cancer, with extension to prostate cancer, and other cancers.

About the Position

BriaCell is seeking a highly motivated Scientist / Senior Scientist with expertise in genetic engineering and cell therapy development to join our cross-functional Discovery and CMC teams. This hybrid role will support both early-stage discovery research and CMC activities for BriaCell’s genetically engineered cancer vaccine programs, including cell engineering, assay development, process optimization, analytical characterization, and manufacturing support.

The ideal candidate will have experience in viral vector-based cell engineering, immuno-oncology, and translational development of cell-based therapies, with the ability to work across research, process development, and manufacturing functions in a fast-paced biotech environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, generate, and characterize viral vectors for gene modification in whole-cell cancer vaccine programs.
  • Develop and optimize transduction and cell engineering workflows for stable gene expression in tumor-derived and immune cells.
  • Design and execute in vitro assays to evaluate engineered cell phenotype, function, and immunogenicity.
  • Support analytical development, assay qualification, and QC activities for cell therapy and viral vector programs.
  • Contribute to process development, technology transfer, comparability assessments, and manufacturing support activities.
  • Develop and support analytical assays.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Discovery, Translational, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory teams.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present scientific data in team meetings, technical reports, and cross-functional discussions.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and scientific advances in cell therapy, viral vector engineering, and cancer immunotherapy.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Bioengineering, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant industry or postdoctoral experience.
  • Hands-on experience with viral vector design, production, and cell engineering, preferably including lentiviral systems.
  • Experience with molecular biology and immunology techniques including molecular cloning, qPCR, flow cytometry, and cell-based assays.
  • Experience in immuno-oncology, immunology and/or cell therapy development strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with translational development, process development, analytical development, and GMP considerations for cell or gene therapies is highly desirable.
  • Strong scientific problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
