Position summary:


The Kilgore College Fire Academy is certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP), the State Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas, and is approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. KCFA offers certification schools for NFPA 1001 Basic Structural Firefighter I and II certification, the Texas Volunteer certification, TCFP additional specialized certification courses.


Position responsibilities
โ€ข Associateโ€™s degree with at least 12 years of experience as a full-time, paid, state or local firefighter or fire marshal.

โ€ข TCFP Level III TCFP Instructor certification.

โ€ข TDH Minimum certification of EMT is required.

โ€ข High degree of computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

โ€ข Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

โ€ข Highly motivated individual who requires very little close supervision.

โ€ข Ability to develop, maintain, and teach online courses.

โ€ข Ability to work closely and develop strong relationships with fire professionals within the Collegeโ€™s service area and beyond.

โ€ข Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends, on occasion, as needed

โ€ข Strong budget and program need assessment skills.

Preferred Additional Certifications:
โ€ข TCFP Fire Officer III certification, with Fire Officer IV preferred.

โ€ข TCFP Advanced Firefighter certification, with Master certification preferred.

โ€ข TCFP Fire Inspector certification, with upper-level certification (III or IV) preferred.

โ€ข TCFP HazMat Technician certification, with HazMat Incident Commander preferred.

โ€ข TDH Paramedic certification is not required, but strongly preferred.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

  • Provide resources for safe operation of units.
  • Create and support workplace safety.

  • Compensation for this 12-month position is based on years of teaching at institutionsย of higher education, and highest level of education. Base pay for no experience ranges fromย $56,069ย for an associate's degree to $69,191ย for a doctorate. It also includes a stipend for Director duties.

Positions will remain open until filled. Some Adjunct and Part-Time teaching positions may remain open perpetually as the need for part time instructors fluctuates with student enrollment.
