Home based photo retouchers are professionals who work remotely to enhance and edit digital photographs. They use specialized software to adjust color, remove imperfections, and improve the overall quality of images according to client specifications. Working from home allows them to manage their schedules flexibly while delivering high-quality digital images. Strong attention to detail and proficiency in photo editing tools are essential skills for this role.

AspectHome Based Photo RetoucherPhoto Editor
CredentialsOften requires basic photography or editing skills, sometimes certifications in photo editing softwareTypically requires a degree or certification in photography, graphic design, or related fields
Work EnvironmentPrimarily remote, working from home with digital toolsCan be remote or in-office, often working on multiple projects for various clients or publications
Industry UsageCommon in e-commerce, portrait retouching, and freelance marketsUsed in publishing, advertising, and media industries

While both roles involve editing images, a Home Based Photo Retoucher focuses on retouching photos remotely, often for clients in e-commerce or portrait photography. A Photo Editor may oversee the editing process, select images, and work in a broader editorial context. The main difference lies in scope: retouchers refine images, while editors manage the overall selection and presentation of photos.

  • On-set quality assurance and color expert as needed.
  • Transport materials and equipment and lift, move, and carry objects up to 50 pounds on a limited basis.

Criteria
  • Expert with Photoshop on MacOS, proficient with all other Adobe Creative Cloud products.
  • Highly proficient in all aspects of digital image quality control and output. File size, light, color balance, and retouching.
  • 5+ years of experience in high-volume retouching in studio setting or in-house creative department, focusing on food, high-end furnishings or luxury goods required.
  • Experience with Adobe Workfront, Airtable or similar workflow tools a strong plus.
  • Practical experience with generative AI a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with all studio tools, lighting, technical software and systems.
  • Understanding of color management workflows and catalog pre-press experience a plus.
