Job description

Title: School-Based Therapist

Reports To: Attendance Officer

Employment Terms:ย 

  • Employment terms covering compensation, benefits, and working conditions are specified by the Board of Education's policies, procedures, and agreements.

  • Salary is dependent on experience

Position Overview:ย ย 

The School-Based Therapist role supports students' social-emotional well-being and academic success by addressing behavioral and emotional needs, developing intervention plans, and connecting families with community resources. The therapist works closely with school personnel to create a safe, supportive environment for all students.

Qualifications:ย 

  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Psychology or a related field.ย 
  • Clinical licensure required for a Mental Health Service provider (ie. LCSW, LPC). Applicants who have met the minimum state requirements for licensure and are currently completing the required hours for licensure and are registered with a State Board for Social Workers or Licenced Professional Counselors approved supervisor, may apply.ย 
  • Minimum of 2 years prior experience working in education, mental health or a related field.
  • The State of Missouri issued a valid, active license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor.ย 
  • Approved registration of supervision requirements for a Licensed Master Social Worker working toward clinical licensure, or Provisional Licence Professional Counselor, and a letter of supervision commitment from the registered supervisor.ย 
  • Valid Missouri Driver's Licenseย 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct individual, family, or group-based behavioral or mental health therapy and psychoeducation.
  • Provide crisis intervention, risk assessment, and management when needed.ย 
  • Provide appropriate referrals for services to students, families, and staff members.ย 
  • Provide data collection and assessment relating to the development of mental health treatment plans.ย 
  • Design and implement interventions to help students meet social-emotional, individual, family, and educational goals.ย ย 
  • Meet, collaborate, and regularly communicate with school staff, parents, and other service providers regarding studentย 
  • Maintain service records, clinical case notes, and educational records securely.ย 
  • Provide intervention strategies that may be implemented within the classroom to address individual and group behavioral dynamics, regarding students' social-emotional needs.
  • Must communicate clearly with coworkers, supervisors, and other staff members.
  • Carries out policies of the district, building, and classroom.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all students and classroom information.
  • Any other duties assigned by the administrator.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Factors:

  • Ability to work in a climate-controlled building, as well as in inclement weather.ย 
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around for long periods of time.
  • Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids, a computer screen and printed matter, and to distinguish colors.ย ย 
  • Sufficient hearing to understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone.ย 
  • Manual dexterity to operate a telephone and enter data into a computer using both hands.ย 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, on the telephone, and addressing groups.ย 
  • Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to lift, bend, stoop, pull, grasp, and carry a variety of objects of different shapes and sizes.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and be able to travel to buildings within the district.
  • Able to perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
