Job description

A paramedic in a hospital setting provides advanced medical care to patients in emergency situations. Their primary responsibilities include assessing patient conditions, administering life-saving interventions and stabilizing patients before or during transfer to specialized care units. They collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to implement treatment plans. Hospital-based paramedics are often involved in trauma response, rapid assessments, medication administration, and using advanced medical equipment. They must also document patient conditions, treatments given, and outcomes.

In this role, paramedics are expected to work efficiently under pressure, maintain strong communication skills, and adhere to established protocols. Their duties may also include assisting with patient transfers, triage, or emergency room operations. This position requires proficiency in critical thinking, decision-making, and staying updated on medical protocols and equipment.

Essential Functions
    Performs patient care tasks in a safe and competent manner without deviation from the standard of care or hospital policy and procedure.
    Coordinates care with the Clinical Nurse and other interdisciplinary are to optimize patient outcomes.
    Demonstrates ability to recognize changes in patient status and report changes to Clinical Nurse immediately and assist in providing appropriate interventions in a timely manner.
    Maintains complete and timely documentation that assures accurate reflection of care provided.
    Provided appropriate communication with multidisciplinary team members, patients and their families.
    Maintains communication with Clinical Nurse throughout entire shift to ensure accuracy of information and care provided.
    Promptly responds to patients request for assistance in professional and effective manner.
    Performs other functions as assigned which may include assuring a clean environment, basic housekeeping, restocking equipment or supplies, report damaged or unsafe/malfunctioning equipment according to policy

Education

  • Technical Program- Paramedic program    


License/Registration

  • Paramedic - Issued by Florida or Compact State


Certification

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) through American Red Cross or American Heart Association 
  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) through American Red Cross or American Heart Association


Work Experience and Additional Information

  • 1 year experience in clinical setting
  • Must attend EKG recognition within 30 days of hire.
