What is home based optometry billing?

Home based optometry billing involves managing the billing and insurance claims for optometrists and eye care practices from a remote or home office setting. Professionals in this role handle tasks such as processing patient invoices, submitting insurance claims, and ensuring timely payment for services rendered. This job requires knowledge of optometry-specific codes, billing regulations, and insurance procedures. It is ideal for individuals who have experience in medical billing and are comfortable working independently with specialized software. Home based optometry billers play a crucial role in the financial health of optometry practices by ensuring accurate and prompt reimbursement.

What are some common challenges faced in a home based optometry billing role, and how can they be managed?

Home-based optometry billing professionals often encounter challenges such as staying updated with frequent insurance policy changes, maintaining data security, and managing communication with clinics and insurance providers remotely. Staying organized and proactive can help ensure timely claim submissions and minimize denials or errors.

Important Notes

This position is based on-site in Birmingham, AL. Remote work is not available for this role.

About Us

Since 2019, Landing has redefined apartment renting with the industry's first flexible living model. Our membership program provides consumers access to a network of apartments in 60+ top markets with no deposits, hassles, or stress.

About the Role

We're looking for a Billing Analyst to join Landing! You'll report to the Billing Team Lead and play a key role in billing, collections, and account reconciliation while working closely with a team of analysts. This is the right role if you enjoy working with numbers, solving problems with logic, and digging into the details to find the needle in the haystack.

The role evolves as you grow: you'll start by mastering core processes such as appeasements and credits, then expand into reconciliations, audits, and variance analysis as you develop expertise. You'll thrive in a fast-paced, high-impact environment with ample opportunities to learn and advance.

About the Team

Our billing team is a group of high achievers with a results-first attitude. We operate in a constantly evolving environment where flexibility and delivering results are key. We partner closely with several teams across the business and play a vital role in Landing's success.

What You'll Do
  • Reconcile member accounts to identify balances owed or due, ensuring accurate revenue recognition and property payouts.
  • Process appeasements, refunds, and account credits with the proper approvals and documentation.
  • Support management with billing audits, discrepancy resolution, and variance tracking.
  • Partner with internal teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex billing issues quickly and effectively.
  • Respond to member billing inquiries (calls, emails, tickets) by providing clear breakdowns of statements and ensuring full transparency.
What You'll Need
  • Ability to work from our Birmingham office — a collaborative, fast-moving environment.
  • Availability Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-6:00 PM CST
  • Experience in billing or a related field (not necessarily an accountant, but comfortable working with numbers)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities with urgency
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
  • Flexibility to work extended hours during critical periods, as needed
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute to a team-oriented culture
Compensation & Benefits
  • Solid compensation package + stock options
  • Comprehensive benefits - Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and AD&D, Disability, Mental Health, Pet, Commuter, and FSA or HSA
  • We’ve got you covered with a 401(k) plan and access to ImmediatePay
  • Feel relaxed with super generous PTO policy
  • Opportunities for upward mobility - we want you to grow with us!
  • Explore and travel comfortably with 7 free nights in a Landing home per year
  • Employee perks for temporary or indefinite stays when you choose to live with Landing
