Job description

Step into a rewarding role helping students achieve greater independence in their daily lives as a contract Orientation and Mobility Specialist. This unique, part-time opportunity focuses on providing make-up services for a student with complex needs in a home-based setting. The contract spans the full school year, consisting of two 40-minute sessions weekly, with current hours totaling approximately two per week. Additional hours may become available through further make-up sessions. If you are seeking flexibility, scheduling adjustments can be considered, prioritizing both your availability and the student's needs.
Ideal candidates will hold an endorsement as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS), and bring compassion, creativity, and experience working with students with diverse and complex needs. Your expertise will directly support a meaningful goal: empowering the student to navigate their home environment using vital spatial and positional concepts, such as left/right, near/far, and in/out, while targeting specific environmental features like doorways and furniture.
Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current endorsement as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
  • Previous experience providing orientation and mobility services, ideally within home or special education settings
  • Ability to develop and deliver instruction focused on spatial/positional concepts
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with families and education teams
  • Flexibility in scheduling and service delivery
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct orientation and mobility instruction to a student with complex needs in a home-based environment
  • Implement and track progress toward outlined student goals, including consistent documentation
  • Collaborate with caregivers and potential supplementary service providers as needed
  • Adapt strategies and supports to meet individual student needs within each session

This contract role offers a meaningful opportunity to make a difference in a student's life, with the added benefit of schedule flexibility. If you're a passionate Orientation and Mobility Specialist seeking to foster independence in students, apply now to discuss how you can contribute and create positive outcomes!
