Home Based Mediator information

What is a home based mediator?

A Home Based Mediator facilitates conflict resolution between parties from a remote location, often via phone or video conferencing. They help disputing individuals or groups reach mutually acceptable agreements in areas like family, workplace, or community conflicts. This role requires strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Mediators remain neutral, guiding discussions professionally while ensuring confidentiality.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a home based mediator?

To thrive as a Home Based Mediator, you need expertise in conflict resolution, negotiation, and clear communication, often supported by a background in law, social work, or a mediation certification. Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms, case management software, and secure document sharing tools is important for conducting and documenting remote sessions. Active listening, patience, cultural sensitivity, and impartiality are standout soft skills for this role. These competencies enable effective, unbiased facilitation of disputes while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality in a remote environment.

What challenges do home based mediators face and how are they addressed?

Home Based Mediators may encounter challenges such as managing difficult emotions remotely, ensuring all parties feel heard over virtual platforms, and maintaining confidentiality outside of a traditional office. To address these issues, mediators use secure communication tools, establish clear ground rules, and employ structured processes to keep discussions productive. Continuous professional development and training in virtual mediation techniques also help mediators adapt to unique online dynamics. Building rapport and trust remains critical, so experienced mediators often invest time in pre-session preparation and follow-up to support participants throughout the process.

Can I make a living as a home based mediator?

Home based mediators can earn a living depending on their experience, specialization, and client base. Income varies widely, with some mediators working part-time and others establishing full-time practices, often requiring certification and strong communication skills. Successful mediators typically build a reputation over time and may work independently or through mediation firms.

Can you work remotely as a home based mediator?

Home based mediators can often work remotely, especially if they have the necessary communication tools and a suitable workspace. Many mediators conduct virtual sessions using video conferencing platforms and require relevant certifications to practice independently. However, some cases or jurisdictions may require in-person meetings, so remote work availability can vary depending on the employer or client needs.

Job description

Love family law—but tired of the commute, office politics, and cookie-cutter firm culture? This may be exactly what you've been looking for.

Join a fast-growing, highly respected family law firm where talented attorneys are trusted, supported, and given the opportunity to do meaningful work without being chained to an office.

This is a 100% remote attorney position serving clients throughout Middle and South Georgia — including Macon, Warner Robins, and Columbus in Middle Georgia, and Valdosta, Albany, and Thomasville in South Georgia — giving you the freedom to work from home while handling challenging, high-impact family law cases. You'll travel throughout the region as needed for court appearances, mediations, depositions, and other case-related proceedings—but your day-to-day practice is remote.

We're looking for an experienced family law attorney who wants more than just another job: strong cases, real responsibility, professional growth, excellent support, competitive compensation, and a team that genuinely wants you to succeed.

Compensation:

$150,000 – $200,000 Base

Responsibilities:
  • Independently manage a full caseload of family law matters, including divorce, custody, child support, modifications, contempt matters, and related domestic-relations cases throughout Middle and South Georgia

  • Develop thoughtful, strategic case plans based on the facts, the law, and each client's objectives

  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis when difficult or novel issues arise

  • Draft clear, persuasive motions, pleadings, briefs, discovery, and other litigation documents

  • Represent clients confidently in hearings, depositions, mediations, motions practice, and trials

  • Travel to courts throughout Middle Georgia (Macon, Warner Robins, Columbus) and South Georgia (Valdosta, Albany, Thomasville) as necessary for in-person appearances

  • Negotiate intelligently and aggressively when appropriate, while recognizing when settlement serves the client better than continued litigation

  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and firm leadership on complex cases and litigation strategy

  • Communicate proactively with clients so they understand both the legal details and the bigger strategic picture

  • Maintain organized, accurate case files, deadlines, documentation, and billing records throughout every matter

Qualifications:
  • Active license to practice law in Georgia

  • 5+ years of family law litigation experience

  • Meaningful experience handling contested family law matters

  • Courtroom experience and the confidence to advocate independently

  • Must be based in Middle Georgia and have the willingness and ability to travel throughout Middle Georgia (Macon, Warner Robins, Columbus) and South Georgia (Valdosta, Albany, Thomasville) for hearings, mediations, depositions, trials, and other proceedings

  • A professional and reliable home-office setup suitable for remote client meetings, hearings, and case-management work
