Job description

OVERVIEW

The Home-Based Therapist provides therapeutic, home-based services to children and families involved with the Department of Child Services (DCS) across Clinton, Elkhart, Lake, Marion, Monroe, St. Joseph, and Vigo Counties. This role focuses on addressing challenges related to domestic violence, abuse, neglect, mental health, and family dysfunction through evidence-based, trauma-informed interventions.

Services are individualized and designed to improve family functioning, promote stability, and support successful family preservation or reunification. This position offers flexibility and autonomy, allowing therapists to manage their own schedules while delivering impactful clinical services.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide individual and family-focused therapeutic interventions in home and community settings
  2. Deliver culturally competent, trauma-informed counseling services aligned with treatment plans
  3. Conduct clinical assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
  4. Support families in achieving short- and long-term therapeutic goals
  5. Address issues including trauma, abuse, neglect, substance use, mental illness, and family dysfunction
  6. Utilize evidence-based practices to support client progress
  7. Maintain professional and ethical therapeutic standards in alignment with licensure requirements
  8. Collaborate with DCS, Family Case Managers, and other service providers
  9. Complete and maintain accurate documentation including treatment plans, monthly reports, and case notes
  10. Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, and external partners
  11. Develop and implement safety and crisis intervention plans as needed
  12. Maintain an active caseload and ensure consistent client engagement
  13. Attend court proceedings when subpoenaed or invited on behalf of the client
  14. Attend Child and Family Team meetings as scheduled
  15. Attend staffing meetings with supervisor to provide updates
  16. Report any critical incidents or crises immediately to supervisor and DCS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy

Licensure

  • Current Indiana licensure or license-eligible preferred

Experience

  • Experience working with children and families preferred
  • Experience in trauma-informed care strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of child welfare systems, family dynamics, and abuse/neglect cases

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong communication (verbal and written)
  • Ability to build rapport and engage families
  • Crisis management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently in community-based settings
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and strength-based approaches
  • • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance
  • • Ability to pass background checks and required clearances
  • • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends

This position requires a flexible schedule to meet families' needs.

  • Services are delivered in home and community settings
