What is a home based content moderator?

A Home Based Content Moderator is responsible for reviewing and monitoring user-generated content on websites, social media platforms, or forums to ensure it follows community guidelines and company policies. This role involves identifying and removing harmful, inappropriate, or offensive content while maintaining platform integrity. Moderators work remotely and use company tools to assess text, images, videos, and other media. Strong attention to detail, good judgment, and familiarity with content policies are essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a home based content moderator?

To thrive as a Home Based Content Moderator, you need strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and a good command of written communication, typically with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with content management systems, basic internet research, and platform-specific moderation tools is often required. These skills and qualities are essential to ensure user-generated content aligns with platform guidelines and to maintain a safe online environment.

What are some common challenges faced by home based content moderators?

One common challenge for home based content moderators is consistently applying community guidelines across a wide range of content while minimizing subjectivity and bias. The nature of the role often involves reviewing large volumes of material, which can sometimes include sensitive or distressing content, requiring strong emotional resilience and focus. Additionally, since the role is remote, staying connected with team members and accessing timely support or clarification can be challenging, so strong communication skills and self-motivation are key. Many companies address these challenges by offering ongoing training, regular team check-ins, and resources for mental well-being. With experience, moderators often have opportunities to progress to senior moderation roles, quality assurance positions, or team leadership within the organization.

Job description

Seeking an Independent Content Creator
Ongoing Creative Services (1099 Contractor)

We Think Home Services Has Some of the Best Stories Nobody's Telling.

Most home service companies post the same things – stock photos, coupons, and generic social media. We think the best stories are happening every day. They're just not being told.

Every day, our people solve real problems, earn customers' trust, support their communities, and create moments that are funny, inspiring, educational, and deeply human. Those are the stories we want to tell.

Our goal isn't to create more content. Our goal is to create content that's actually worth following.

We want to build brands that people choose to follow because they learn something, laugh, meet interesting people, or simply enjoy the stories we tell, not just because one day they'll need our services.

Opportunity

We're looking to partner with an independent content creator who can help us tell those stories through photography, video, and social content.

We're not looking for someone to manage a social media calendar.

We're looking for someone who enjoys meeting people, asking questions, finding stories, and turning everyday moments into content people actually want to watch, read, and share.

You'll have the freedom to bring ideas, experiment with new formats, and help shape how our brands show up online. We aren't looking for someone to execute a checklist, we're looking for a creative partner who wants to build something exceptional.

Scope of Services

The engagement may include:
  • Capturing original photography and video at job sites, branch locations, and community events.
  • Developing content for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Google Business Profile.
  • Produce original photography, short-form video, long-form video, and other creative assets.
  • Identifying compelling stories featuring our people, customers, projects, and communities.
  • Organizing and delivering a growing library of visual assets for marketing, recruiting, advertising, email, and website use.
  • Bringing new creative concepts and content ideas that help our brands stand out.
About You

We're less interested in the number of years on your resume than we are in your creativity, curiosity, and portfolio.

You might be an established freelancer, a recent graduate with an exceptional eye for content, or someone who's been creating amazing work on your own.

If you're the type of person who's always thinking, "That would make a great story," we'd love to see your work.

Proposal Requirements

Please include:
  • Your resume (or LinkedIn profile)
  • A link to your portfolio, website, or examples of your work
  • A brief note introducing yourself and why this opportunity interests you
Engagement Details
  • Independent Contractor (1099)
  • Ongoing monthly creative services engagement
  • Regular travel throughout Northern California
  • Contractor provides their own equipment
  • Monthly retainer based on proposed scope and experience
We believe the best stories in home services haven't been told yet. If you'd like to help change that, we'd love to hear from you.
