What is a home based API 653 inspector?

A Home Based API 653 Inspector is a certified professional who specializes in the inspection, repair, alteration, and reconstruction of aboveground storage tanks in accordance with the API 653 standard, while primarily working from a home office rather than a centralized facility. These inspectors commonly travel to client sites for field inspections but handle administrative tasks, reporting, and scheduling remotely. This arrangement allows for flexibility and may reduce commute times, but still requires strong technical knowledge and compliance with safety and industry standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a home based API 653 inspector?

To thrive as a Home-Based API 653 Inspector, you need in-depth knowledge of tank inspection, repair, alteration, and reconstruction, along with an API 653 certification and a background in engineering or related fields. Familiarity with inspection management software, nondestructive testing (NDT) tools, and digital reporting systems is typically required. Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, and effective communication are standout soft skills for this remote role. These skills ensure accurate compliance assessments, maintain safety standards, and support efficient project delivery in the oil and gas industry.
