  • Heavy Equipment Operator- Tree & Park - full-time, 40 hours per week.
    The Town of Cohasset is seeking a qualified Heavy EquipmentOperator to join its team at the Tree & Park Department of Public Works.
    Position Overview:
    The Heavy Equipment Operator performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in support of Tree and Park Division operations. This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of parks, open spaces, and public grounds, including tree work, landscaping, and storm response activities. Responsibilities include performing routine maintenance and inspections on assigned equipment, assisting with tree removal and pruning operations, and supporting seasonal and special projects as needed. The role also includes general labor duties to ensure safe, efficient, and well-maintained public spaces. This position reports directly to the General Supervisor and plays a key role in maintaining safe, efficient, and high-quality operations
    Key Responsibilities:
    • Operate heavy equipment (e.g., front-end loader, backhoe, chipper truck, stump grinder, and gang mower) in support of tree and park maintenance, construction, and repair activities.
    • Support tree and park operations, including tree removal and pruning, brush and debris management, turf maintenance, and storm response.
    • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and safety checks on assigned equipment and vehicles.
    • Assist with a wide range of field operations, including duties typically performed by light equipment operators and laborers within the Tree and Park Division.
    • Complete manual labor tasks associated with tree work, landscaping, and general park maintenance activities.
    • Maintain a safe work environment by following established safety procedures and performing additional duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications: A HighSchool diploma or equivalent, plus a minimum of two (2) years of advancedtechnical or vocational training and experience in the operation of heavyequipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid DOTmedical card. Tree & Park employees must obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License within one year of employment, with reimbursement opportunities for the cost of the license. Skilled experience in operating vehicles and equipment is required.
    Preferred Qualifications: Tree & Park employees are preferred to hold 2B, 4E, and 4G hoisting engineer's licenses. Knowledge of departmental operations and safe and effective heavy equipment operation techniques and practices is also preferred.
    Compensation& Benefits:
    This is a full-time, benefited position classified as GradePW1 -1 without CDL ($ 26.72 per hour), PW2 -1 with CDL ($29.38 per hour). The Town of Cohasset offers a competitive salarycommensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package
    A collective bargaining unit represents this position andis 40 hours per week. Work schedule is Monday- Friday, 7 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.
