Job description

The Town of Charlton seeks to fill a full-time Equipment Operator position for our Highway Department. Under the general direction of the DPW Superintendent, the Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of trucks and other equipment. Operating power mowers, hand driven snow blowers, wood-chippers, power saws and similar equipment. Responsibilities include driving truck and delivering equipment and supplies to designated areas. Laborer duties required in road repairs and maintenance of sidewalks. Performs general maintenance and repair work on equipment and all other related work as required. May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays if storms or emergent situations arise. The anticipated start for this opening is mid July.
Qualifications:
* Knowledge of principles of operation and servicing of trucks and related automotive equipment.
* Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in the operation of trucks and special automotive equipment.
* Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
* Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions.
* Licenses required are Class B, CDL and DOT medical card.
* Hoisting Engineer 2A endorsement minimal
Benefits:
* Health Insurance (75/25 split)
* Holidays - 13 paid
* Vacation - 2 weeks after 6 months (additional week can be earned if can show proof of being with another municipal Highway Dept for 5 years or more) Maximum of 3 weeks can be earned.
* Sick Time - 15 days per year
* Summer hours - 4 day work week

Salary Range - $29.43 (must have CDL and 2A Hoisting) - $33.56 (If have CDL, 2A, 4E and 4G will qualify for Heavy Equipment operator)
