Job description

Prestage Farms is seeking for a dependable and motivated Hog Loader with the potential to advance into a crew leadership role. This position is responsible for the safe, humane, and efficient loading of hogs for transportation, with a strong emphasis on animal welfare, biosecurity, and teamwork. The ideal candidate will have prior livestock handling experience and demonstrate leadership qualities that can grow into supervising a team of loaders.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the loading of market swine.
  • Open gates and move marked swine to the truck driver and holding area according to instructions.
  • Adjust loading ramp and assist truck driver when backing his or her vehicle.
  • Supervise the cleanup of truck, cutting boards, boots, etc.
  • Responsible for the accountability of daily paperwork.

Requirements

  • Valid Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Ability to read and understand safety rules, operational procedures, and maintenance manuals.
  • Capable of writing routine reports and professional correspondence.
  • Comfortable speaking to groups such as employees, growers, or visitors.
  • Strong math skills, including the ability to work with fractions, decimals, percentages, and interpret data such as bar graphs.
  • Previous experience handling livestock (hogs preferred) in production or transportation settings.
  • Solid understanding of animal welfare and handling best practices.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively in physically demanding, fast-paced environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willing and able to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
