Berthaโ€™s Place is a 62-unit, non-congregate shelter for people experiencing homelessness.  The population served is one third single women, one third couples with a female head of household, and one third people over 55.  Berthaโ€™s place is a secure access 24-hour/7-day a week low barrier shelter with the primary goal of helping support residents regain permanent housing.  

Oversee the operation of the Berthaโ€™s Place and Berthaโ€™s Too Shelters in the absence of the Program Supervisors. Provides direction to Shelter Program Generalists to ensure the comfort and safety of guests and employees.


  • Fills in for the program supervisor when she or he is not working. May also attend case staffing and administrative meetings as needed. May also fill in for Program Supervisors or other staff as needed during the week.
  • Participates in interviews and decision making for hiring shelter staff as needed.
  • Supervises all shelter staff and guests in the absence of the supervisor.
  • As the team leader, works with staff to welcome guests, and ensures HMIS data entry is correct and completed daily.
  • In collaboration with the Program Supervisors and Kitchen Supervisor, provide support to kitchen efforts as needed.
  • Ensures security procedures are communicated and implemented.
  • As part of the Berthaโ€™s Place team, intervenes in arguments, fights and other disruptive behavior. Provides behavioral management. Facilitates the ban decision making process in the absence of the Program Supervisors.
  • Ensures that all reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • In collaboration with the Program Supervisors, oversees the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) data entry. Works with the program director, supervisor, and county HMIS administrator to ensure accurate HMIS data entry.
  • Completes HMIS training, attends HMIS administrator meetings and other HMIS related meetings and training as required.
  • In collaboration with the Program Supervisors, provides one on one counseling, supportive services and connection with services.
  • Works closely with the Case Managers and Peer Case Managers to provide coordinated services to guests.
  • Provides counseling consultation regarding guests for shelter program generalists.
  • Fills in for Shelter Program Generalist position as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must have 2yrs experience in Case Management, Social Work, working with homeless, or disabled adults.
  • Education will substitute for experience.
  • Proof of negative TB test within the past 12 months
  • Ability to be compassionate, nonjudgmental, and set clear personal boundaries
  • Ability to set clear limits and consequences and manage triangulation with guests and staff
  • Ability to take strong initiative and ownership of the position, be proactive in problem solving, and be an effective team communicator.
  • Ability to form and maintain a strong team commitment with staff
  • Work with diverse population including people with active mental health and chemical dependency issues
  • Be a positive and proactive team member
  • Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driverโ€™s license, and automobile insurance.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record per CCSโ€™ driving policy, (required to provide current driving abstract)
