Job description

Hands-on Electrical/Controls/Automation Engineer needed to design, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial control, electrical, and automation systems. This role supports PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, instrumentation, VFDs, and in-house software, provides technical guidance, leads projects, and implements process improvements to maximize equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency. Experience with electrical systems, instrumentation, and industrial automation required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and configure control systems, electrical panels, and instrumentation equipment for industrial processes.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, thin clients, and in-house software applications.
  • Analyze facility processes to identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting, including power systems for melt stations, rectifiers, VFDs, and associated equipment.
  • Work with instrumentation such as pressure sensors, temperature sensors, flow meters, and transducers.
  • Provide technical guidance and remote assistance for installation, commissioning, and system upgrades.
  • Conduct analytical assessments, root cause analysis, and safety inspections of control and electrical systems.
  • Initiate, plan, and lead projects independently, maintaining schedule and cost updates for multi-discipline initiatives.
  • Modify and improve existing control systems to optimize performance and safety compliance.
  • Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to maintain software, networks, and automation infrastructure.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and related industrial control hardware.
  • Experience designing electrical panels and industrial equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), power systems, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in networking, software troubleshooting, and in-house application maintenance (e.g., C# applications).
  • Ability to analyze and optimize industrial processes and implement automation solutions.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and sensor systems (pressure, temperature, flow, transducers).
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work safely in industrial environments and ensure compliance with safety standards.
