TITLE: Retail Sales Associate

DEPARTMENT: Retail

REPORTS TO: Retail Sales Supervisor

LOCATION: Miami, FL

HOURS: Part time (<30 hours per week)

PAY TYPE: Hourly

PAY RATE: $17.00 / hour

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime)




Role Summary

The Retail Team operates the museum’s retail store - much more than a place just for exciting exhibits, the Museum of Sex also presents a dazzling range of own-brand and third-party products for its patrons. Associates conduct sales transactions, maintain stock and displays, and provide enthusiastic customer service across the store. The museum is building its brand and the retail store is a vital component of that growth. Teamwork is a staple throughout our entire operation. Associates work closely with other department’s staff to create an unforgettable experience for all museum visitors.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  •  Associates provide exceptional customer service throughout the museum store, especially with upselling a variety of products and conducting sales transactions.

  • This position is the first point of contact for visitors and customers, and (within given authority) must meet and exceed the expectations of all guests and meet or exceed service and sales targets.

  • Associates may also be called upon to assist staff and visitors with directions and information about the museum galleries, amusements, attractions.

  • Greet and assist all museum guests; effectively handle questions, sales, service, and payments for a variety of museum attractions, amusements, and products in accordance with established museum policies and procedures.

  • Use initiative and enthusiasm to create exceptional guest experiences.

  • Build sales using various techniques such as add-ons, substitutions, and active listening.

  • Maintain appearance and functionality of back of house areas.

  • Be knowledgeable about the museum, its history, programs, and special events – communicating this information effectively to guests.

  • Facilitate internal communication, as needed, with support departments: Operations, HR, Administration, etc.

  • Maintain the ability to work nights and weekends and extended schedules during peak periods. Provide updated availability and changes when necessary.

  • Able to move from place to place, which may include standing and/or walking for extended periods of time.

  • Perform additional duties as required.

  • The work environment is an indoor, climate-controlled public area of assembly. The noise level varies throughout the venue, some areas are very quiet while others contain reasonably high noise levels. There is ample lighting throughout the venue. There are no hazards and no protective devices worn or used in the office work environment.
