History Internship information

What is a history internship?

A history internship is a temporary position that allows students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in the field of history. Interns may work at museums, archives, historical societies, research institutions, or government agencies, assisting with research, cataloging, educational programs, or public outreach. These internships provide hands-on learning opportunities, help develop professional skills, and can be valuable for building a resume or exploring career options in history-related fields.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on during a history internship?

As a history intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects, such as assisting with archival research, cataloging historical materials, supporting public history events or exhibitions, and conducting background research for publications or educational programs. Interns often collaborate with historians, archivists, and museum staff, gaining hands-on experience with primary sources and digital databases. The daily tasks may range from data entry and document analysis to contributing to team meetings and helping develop educational content. These experiences not only build research and communication skills but also offer valuable insight into careers in museums, archives, or academia.
