In 1993, the Center opened the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angelesย toย worldwide acclaim. The Museum has served as the Centerโ€™s flagship educational arm, challenging visitors to confront bigotry and racism, and to understand the Holocaust in both historical and contemporary contexts. In addition, the Center developed Moriah Media to produce theatrical documentaries to educate global audiences. Moriah has produced 17 documentaries to date, two of which have received the Academy Award for best feature documentary, The Long Way Home and Genocide.ย 

About the Role:ย 

The Museum of Tolerance is seeking aย Retail Salesย Leadย to take ownership of the day-to-day operations and guest experience of the MOT Shop. This is a hands-onย role for a retail professional who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and is excited to connect visitors with meaningful, purpose-driven merchandise.ย 

This role blendsย retail operations, e-commerce (Shopify), customer experience, and visual merchandising, ensuring every visitor leaves with a seamless, engaging, and memorable shopping experience that reflects the mission of the Museum of Tolerance.ย 

The ideal candidate brings strong retailย experience, confidence using Shopify or similar platforms, and the ability to elevate a retail space into a curated, high-performing store experience. Museum or cultural institution retail experience is aย plus.ย

Key Responsibilities:ย 

Retail Store Leadership & Operationsย 

  • Lead daily operations of the MOT Shop, ensuring a smooth, efficient, and high-quality retail experience.ย ย 
  • Open and close the store according to established procedures, ensuring accuracy in cash handling and reporting.ย ย 
  • Maintain operational readiness, cleanliness, organization, and visual presentation of the retail space.ย ย 

Customer Experience & Sales Excellence:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service to a diverse global audience, including museum visitors, students, educators, and tour groups.ย ย 
  • Actively engage customers to drive sales, enhance experience, and promote mission-aligned merchandise.ย ย 
  • Handle in-person, phone, andย special-orderย inquiries with professionalism and care.ย ย 
  • Model a welcoming, inclusive, and service-oriented retail environment.ย ย 

E-Commerce & Shopify Management:ย 

  • Manage and process online orders throughย Shopifyย salesย platforms.ย ย 
  • Oversee order fulfillment, including packaging, gift wrapping, and shipping preparation.ย ย 
  • Maintainย accurateย product listings, inventory updates, and online storefront consistency.ย ย 
  • Support integration between in-store and online retail operations.ย ย 

Inventory & Merchandising:ย 

  • Manage inventory tracking, restocking, and product organization.ย ย 
  • Monitor stock levels and proactively communicate merchandise needs.ย ย 
  • Support visual merchandising, product displays, and signage to maximize engagement and sales.ย ย 
  • Work closely with leadership toย identifyย trends and improve product performance.ย ย 

Loss Prevention & Compliance:ย 

  • Maintain awareness of store activity and collaborate with museum security to prevent inventory shrinkage.ย ย 
  • Follow all cash handling, POS, and operational procedures with accuracy and consistency.ย ย 
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and retail standards.ย ย 

Additional Responsibilities (As Needed):

  • Provide cross-functional support for the Admissions/Ticket Desk, including in-person and phone ticket sales assistance.ย ย 
  • Assistย with operational support for museumย special events, private rentals, and public programs as needed.ย ย 
  • Process payments and support transaction coordination for school groups, tours, and institutional visitors.ย ย 
  • Provide flexible operational support across the Museum of Tolerance to helpย maintainย a seamless visitor experience during high-volume periods and special programming.ย 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of retail experience, preferably in a lead, keyholder, or supervisory capacity.ย ย 
  • Strong experience withย Shopify or similar e-commerce platformsย required.ย ย 
  • Museumย store,ย bookstore, culturalย institution, or mission-driven retail experienceย preferred.ย ย 
  • Proven ability to manage retail operations, customer service, and inventory systems.ย ย 
  • Strong communicationย and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.ย ย 
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.ย ย 
  • Comfortable handling cash, POS systems, and operational reporting.ย ย
