The McDonnell laboratory in the Pharmacology and Cancer Biology department is seeking a full-time Research Technician II to join our tumor biology team. The highly translational nature of our research in breast and prostate cancer, together with a supportive lab environment, is ideal for preparing highly motivated new graduates for a career in science. You will be primarily working with genetically modified and immune-compromised mice to identify pathways required for tumor growth and metastasis. Work will be performed on-site at Duke University, and occasional weekend or holiday work may be required.

Qualifications for consideration include:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • Prior experience in animal handling is preferred but not required. 

This position will require excellent record keeping and attention to detail with extensive record keeping in Excel format

  • Maintaining, breeding and genotyping multiple transgenic mouse colonies
  • Measuring tumors and administering treatments to mice by multiple routes in efficacy studies
  • Processing of harvested tissues by molecular techniques (quantitative PCR, western blotting, histology, immune-fluorescence imaging).
  • Preparing culture media, chemicals, reagents and solutions

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $20.65 to USD $29.43.
