Job description

Job Title: Streetlight URD Technician

Department: Operations

Reports To: Streetlight Foreman

FLSA Status: Non- Exempt

Pay Range: $24-$35

Work Schedule: Four 10-hour days per week.

Location: Rockville, MD, Onsite

 

Position Purpose:

The Streetlight URD Technician (Underground Residential Distribution) performs electrical work in the construction and maintenance of energized Street Light work. You will have tasks including but are not limited to troubleshooting, repairing, installing and removing overhead streetlight heads, bulbs, photocells and working with URD systems.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with URD systems and components.
  • Replace Fiberglass Streetlight Poles.
  • Find URD Cable Faults and have knowledge of using fault locating equipment.
  • Comprehend and read land maps or work orders.
  • Repair faults.
  • Dig and Backfill to prepare sites for construction.
  • Comfortable working with voltages up to 600V.
  • Be comfortable working multiple light circuits on busy roads and highways
  • Rewiring poles from the arm down to the base of pole
  • Pull span wires, climbing ladders, stenciling poles, and replacing handhold covers
  • Use and interpret readings from test instruments and devices such as cable path and fault locating equipment, ammeter, rotator, voltmeter, high-voltage phasing tools, and ohmmeter.
  • Use a variety of specialized tools and equipment such as hot sticks, hydraulic compression tools, hydraulic saw, impact drill or tension pulling machine.
  • Performs splicing and terminal connections in open trenches, duct lines or cables poles which may involve making joints or terminations using braid and various types of tape according to specifications or using pre-molded materials to construct indoor terminations, pothheads and elbow terminations.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
  • All other tasks as needed

While performing the responsibilities of this job, you will need to speak or listen. The job requires you to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel; and reach with hands and arms.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the tasks of this job, you are frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. You are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. You perform this work in outside weather conditions.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with URD systems.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Dig and backfill.
  • Ability to climb in and out of bucket truck
  • Read, write and speak in English
  • Ability to travel and work for extended periods in different locations.
  • Valid CDL or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.
