How much do hiring freeze jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 16, 2026, the average hourly pay for hiring freeze in the United States is $18.31, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.35 and $19.71 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What jobs are affected by hiring freezes?

During a hiring freeze, most new job openings across various roles are temporarily put on hold, including positions in administrative, technical, and managerial fields. Typically, critical roles such as healthcare, safety, or compliance-related jobs may be exempt, but non-essential positions are often affected until the freeze is lifted.

What is the difference between Hiring Freeze vs Recruiter?

AspectHiring FreezeRecruiter
DefinitionA temporary halt on new hiring across an organization or department.A professional responsible for sourcing, screening, and hiring candidates for job openings.
PurposeTo control costs, manage organizational restructuring, or respond to economic conditions. To fill open positions by attracting qualified candidates.
Impact on HiringNo new hires allowed during the freeze period.Active process of recruiting and hiring candidates.
Work EnvironmentCan affect HR and hiring teams, often involving policy decisions.Engages directly with candidates and hiring managers.

In summary, a Hiring Freeze is a temporary pause on all new hiring activities, while a Recruiter actively works to fill open positions. The freeze impacts the overall hiring process, whereas recruiters focus on sourcing and onboarding candidates during normal operations.

How long will there be a hiring freeze?

The duration of a hiring freeze varies depending on the organization's circumstances and economic conditions. It can last from a few weeks to several months, and sometimes longer if the organization continues to face financial or strategic challenges. Employees and job seekers should monitor official company communications for updates on the freeze status.

Can you still get hired during a hiring freeze?

A hiring freeze typically means companies temporarily halt new hiring, making it difficult to secure a new position during this period. However, internal transfers, temporary or contract roles, or positions not affected by the freeze may still be available. Job seekers should monitor company updates and consider networking to identify opportunities that may arise despite the freeze.

Why are jobs on a hiring freeze?

A hiring freeze occurs when an organization temporarily suspends new job openings to control costs, manage budget constraints, or respond to economic uncertainties. During this period, existing staff may be reassigned or promoted, and hiring managers often focus on internal priorities and efficiency improvements.
