A confidential company is seeking an experienced Payroll/HR Generalist to manage bi-weekly payroll administration while supporting a broad range of Human Resources functions. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity ideal for a tech-savvy HR professional with strong payroll expertise who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

1. Job Summary

The Payroll/HR Generalist is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of bi-weekly hourly and salaried payroll while providing hands-on support across key HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, leaves of absence, employee records, compliance, reporting, and employee relations support.

This position requires strong attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the ability to independently manage payroll and HR priorities while maintaining confidentiality. The ideal candidate brings 3–10 years of progressive payroll and/or HR experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

2. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

  • Administer accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees using the Alight payroll system.
  • Review payroll information for accuracy and resolve discrepancies before processing.
  • Research and respond to employee payroll questions.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll reporting and reconciliations.
  • Provide payroll documentation and support for internal and external audits.
  • Partner with Finance as needed to ensure accurate payroll reporting and reconciliation.

HRIS & Employee Records

  • Maintain accurate employee information within HRIS and payroll systems.
  • Maintain confidential personnel files and employment documentation.
  • Manage I-9, attendance, sick leave, vacation, and other employee records.
  • Ensure employee data is accurate, current, and properly maintained.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and streamline HR and payroll processes.

HR Administration & Employee Support

  • Administer HR processes related to recruitment, onboarding, terminations, benefits, and employee changes.
  • Coordinate interviews, background inquiries, new hire paperwork, and related correspondence.
  • Respond to employee and management questions regarding payroll, benefits, policies, procedures, and HR programs.
  • Coordinate temporary staffing requirements with external staffing vendors.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive employee matters.

Benefits & Leave Administration

  • Support employee benefits administration and annual open enrollment.
  • Administer employee leaves, including FMLA, CFRA, and PFL.
  • Maintain accurate leave documentation and employee records.
  • Partner with Corporate Human Resources on benefits changes and other HR initiatives.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc HR reports, statistics, and workforce data.
  • Respond to unemployment benefit information requests.
  • Assist with governmental inquiries and audits.
  • Maintain payroll and HR practices in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Recommend and implement improvements that increase payroll and HR accuracy and efficiency.

3. Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 3–10 years of progressive HR and/or payroll experience.
  • Hands-on experience processing payroll.
  • Strong understanding of HR administration and employee recordkeeping.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and/or payroll systems.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong technology skills and ability to quickly learn new HR and payroll systems.
  • Experience handling confidential employee and payroll information.
  • Working knowledge of applicable payroll and employment regulations.

Preferred

  • HR and/or payroll experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Alight payroll systems.
  • California HR experience, including knowledge of FMLA, CFRA, and PFL.
  • Experience with benefits and leave administration.
  • Experience supporting payroll reconciliations, reporting, and audits.
  • Experience identifying opportunities for HR/payroll process automation and improvement.

4. Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
