Description:

Encore at the J (The Jewish Community Center’s Dance, Tumbling & Music program) offers classes for preschool, beginners, intermediate and advanced students in a wide range of performing arts skills: Tiny Tots, Creative Movement, Ballet/Tap Combo, Tumbling, Acrobatic Arts, Lyrical, Jazz, Hip Hop, Pre-Compete and Competition Teams.


We are currently seeking a dance instructor to teach classes on Tuesday evenings to students ages 12+. Experience with high school pom, jazz and hip hop is required. Tumbling/Acro is a plus.


Schedule: Part-time including Tuesday evenings, with opportunities to sub/teach additional classes throughout the week, as well as possible competition choreography.


Essential Functions

  • Maintain a safe and fun environment.
  • Teach & demonstrate the appropriate skills and curriculum (supplied) for age levels and skill levels.
  • Choreograph and teach Recital dances when needed.
  • Communicate important information with parents. Hand out notes and information on time.
  • Be prepared and dressed to reflect a positive image of The J.
  • Have the classroom set-up and ready for appropriate lesson.
  • Communicate with supervisor about any problems and concerns in the classroom.
  • Attend Staff meetings and Encore performances- The Jewish Nutcracker & Encore Recitals.
Requirements:
  • Prior experience with high school pom, jazz and hip hop is required (must be able to provide examples of choreography). Experience acro is a plus.
  • B.F.A. or other degree related to the area teaching preferred, but not required.
  • Experience teaching a variety of ages and skill levels.
  • Ability to provide exemplary customer service to students and their parents/guardians.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students of all ages and abilities.
  • Ability to demonstrate most skills and teach the technique and vocabulary associated with the specific style of dance.

Physical Requirements

  • This job is physically active and requires constant standing, walking, movement and body coordination to demonstrate skills.
  • Constant talking and hearing to communicate with students as well as parents.
  • Frequent stooping/crouching and crawling.
  • Occasional lifting up to 45lbs.
