Job description

THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY

POSITION TITLE:  VPK Lead Instructor

ASSIGNMENT:  VPK Lead Instructor - Instructional Program

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A high school diploma or equivalent
  2. Completion of SFSC Certificate of Instructional Assistant or passing score on Para Pro Assessment or AA/AS/AAS degree or higher
  3. Physical requirements to perform essential functions and tasks which may include exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force as frequently as necessary; lifting, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing, if required
  4. Satisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening

ADDITIONAL DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:    

  1. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential issued by the Council for Professional Recognition or
  2. Florida Childcare Professional Certificate (FCCPC) Birth through Five Credential and
  3. AA/AS/AAS degree or higher in child development or early childhood education or
  4. AA/AS/AAS degree or higher and at least 6 credit hours in early childhood education, or child development and at least 480 hours of experience in teaching or providing child care services for children any age from birth through 8 years of age.
  5. Has demonstrated skill in using materials, equipment and procedures associated with the performance of duties in the specific position

                      
PAY GRADE:  

Paygrade 14 - According to the School Board of Highlands County Salary Schedule (no additional supplement)


PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  1. Develops lesson plans based on student needs which are consistent with District and State curriculum requirements
  2. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of curriculum content
  3. Plans and prepares instructional activities that are developmentally appropriate, promote social skill development,   and actively engage students in meaningful learning experiences
  4. Collects and uses data to meet school readiness goals for students
  5. Uses appropriate materials, technology, and resources to help meet learning needs of all students
  6. Maintains a positive, organized, and safe environment
  7. Establishes and utilizes appropriate and effective behavior-management techniques
  8. Assists with enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy
  9. Establishes and maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures, including student records subject to the requirements of the Family Rights and Privacy Act
  10. Manages materials and assigned equipment effectively, including record keeping and other inventory requirements
  11. Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse, and take appropriate intervention, referral, or reporting actions
  12. Communicates effectively, orally and in writing, with other professionals, students, parents, and the community
  13. Collaborates with students, parents, school staff, and other appropriate persons to assist in meeting student needs
  14. Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment
  15. Engages in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills
  16. Acts in a professional and ethical manner and adhere at all times to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct
  17. Fulfills professional responsibilities
  18. Supports school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, services, and programs
  19. Performs other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position

Performs all other duties as assigned by classroom teacher and/or school administrator


TERM:

Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning/budgeting process


APPRAISAL: 

Performance will be appraised annually in accordance with School Board policies
