The County of San Diego's Health and Human Services Agency is currently accepting applications for:
Epidemiologist II

Future Salary Increases:
** June 2026 - 4.03% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board + 0.53% Market Adjustment)

The County of San Diego Epidemiology and Immunization Services Branch of Public Health Services is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Epidemiologist. This is a key position responsible for supporting communicable disease mitigation through timely and comprehensive disease investigation, epidemiologic surveillance, and other critical disease control activities. This includes creation and maintenance of datasets for analysis, interpretation of data, and development of communicable disease reports and dashboards to inform disease control responses.

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Possess a graduate level degree (master's or doctorate) in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Statistics or Mathematics
  • Has three (3) or more years working in the field of public health or medical surveillance, database management and analysis and experience with communicable disease surveillance
  • Has intermediate or expert level Statistical Analysis System (SAS) or R programming experience

Hiring Timeline and Dates
The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.
  • Job Offer and Background Process begins after the week of September 7, 2026. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.

Minimum Qualifications
Education, training, and/or experience that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above. Qualifying education/experience:
  1. Two (2) years of experience as an Epidemiologist I in the County of San Diego; OR,
  2. A master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in public health with specialization in epidemiology, bio-statistics, or a related field, AND, two (2) years of professional epidemiology experience.
Note: A Ph.D. in epidemiology, public health, life science or a closely related field from an accredited U.S. college or university is highly desirable.
